Just found this in What Car?
Reliability survey 2004: Renault - 1 November 2004
20th out of 26
Claims per 100 vehicles 38.0
Average age 4.20 years
Average mileage 42,813
Average repair cost £287
Average time for repair 3.01 hours
Given that the average age and mileage of its cars is on the low side, this is a disappointing result for Renault. Especially since it has dropped a couple of places in the league table, despite a reduction in its claim rates.
Again, though, a couple of vehicles drag down the overall result, the Espace in particular. The ’91-’97 model had claim rates of over 90%, while almost two-thirds of owners of the ’97-’02 model had a problem – the cooling system, electrics and (on the newer model) transmission were all faults.
Older versions of the Laguna were also poor, but the Mégane and newer Clio posted much better results.
Verdict **
A decent showing for most models is ruined by the performance of the Espace.
