How do you cup boys cope without...

  Tangoed Works
I have abs on my 182 and i find it excellent, it hardly ever cuts in and when it does instead of shitting my self and pressing the pedal to the floor, if you lift slightly and modulate the pressure with your foot instead of letting the computer do it, you actually stop quicker.

I think it has been tuned to pretty much the last limit as with the esp. I never feel either cut in under fast smooth progressive driving. If your being a total wally with the throttle traction will cut in.

Agree with you justin about the rough surfaces and it wanting to cut in, but again if you lift slightly off the brake and then apply progressively and firmly it wont cut in.

^^^ which should never be a surprise to you.

Most people on the road are so predictable if you pay attention to what they're doing.

I'm surprised blaze hasn't jumped in on this yet.

I drove to work in the snow the other day and I'm still here...ABS is not necessary for normal driving.

I had a woman pull out on me the other day and I'm still here...because I saw her creeping, saw she hadn't looked my way, guessed she was coming out so was already on/covering the brake before she did it...ABS is not necessary if you pay attention.

^^^ Mark you are so true, anyone who is flaming you must only drive with half concentration. When driving you need to keep 101% attention on the road. Even then you can still get caught out.

  TDI tyre shreader
The ABS/Cup thing is b****cks, ive only ever made mine activate once when i was driving like a proper bellend only ever induced it other wise.

  172CUP/Fiesta supersport
i'm 32 and have never had a car with ABS(and i've had around 12) I don't know how i've survived!!!!

lol^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

must admit.......the only motor i have with abs is the van.........and it scares me wen it cuts in lol

id much rather have a car without tbh, dont like all this computer takin control s**t.

learn to drive properly and then u wont rely on these poor driver aids that are deemed to be 'safe'

  172 Cup
I've been driving the Cup for almost a year now and I think I've locked up once... and that was on an icy road. Why do some people think you need ABS to drive these days? Next you'll be saying how do you not crash with ESP + traction etc.. Answer: We drive to the conditions. :)

not being funny, but i get the pedal bouncing off the bottom of my foot when coming into a roundabout a bit hot, thing is, id hit the same roundabout at the same speed in my old clio ( mk1 ph1 ) and have no bother, just whack the pedal into the carpet!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i think the drivers aids have gone a bit far on the clios, ive a mate with a bmw 330 who regularly gets the arse out (for fun) and gets a fair bit of slip angle before the computer says no!!! ny car goes schitz when i welly the brakes for a tight corner!!!!!

Right.... to elaborate on my original point.

On rough surfaces or mud, its far too intrusive. Mine comes on all the time in this situation. Never once on a smooth road have i had it on..... and my last car didnt have it and only once from memory it locked.

Ditto, that is EXACTLY it mate... I drive like a granny lol - so I never get ABS kicking in on a normal road. The only time it has done so is when I had to emergency brake to stop from being crushed by an ambulance coming round a blind bend on my side of the road...

I love the fact that you all assume I was driving too fast, which is completly not the case. The reason I posted was because the other night, while driving VERY cautiously over a pretty muddy country lane I had to brake for an on-coming car (very narrow stretch of road and he was going very fast)... I was doing 35 in a 60 :S and guess what? The ABS came on, the roadwas muddy at it's edges and I could feel the left front wheel scrabbling for grip. I would hate to think that a 172 cup would 'lock up' under those conditions.

so the 182 cup does have ABS then? dont think i could do without the option, had it go off once or twice BUT its just nice to know its there in an emergency

Actually, at the risk of getting flamed, I'm growing sick of the people who assume the worst instantly on this forum.

Take your cars through the roads I need to drive down and see if your abs doesn't kick in when your left wheels are scrabbling in the mud at 20mph.

I was mainly wondering if the cups wheels locked up in these situations. The ABS is VERY intrusive in these situations.

You make one comment and the whole f**king world assumes your a complete nut case driver who doesn't know what your doing. Well up yours, I have no points, 13 years experience and no crashes. I was also trained in advanced driving techniques and TBH, even today I 'read' the road ahead and avoided several dickheads who seemed intent on crashing into me... gggrrrrr.

your going to quick for the conditions then

abs wasn't common on cars untill the mid 90's how did we all cope......?!

if you need abs to drive, you shouldnt be on the road

This is EXACTLY the type of quote I'm talking about... WHEN did I say I was driving too quickly?? If you hit a patch of diesel and the ABS kicks on are you driving too quickly? Of course not... I can't tell you HOW much that last comment annoys me, who said I needed it to drive? All I said was that on muddy roads it seems to go off very easily. who gives you the pissing authority to say who can or can't be on the road??

... ABS?

I regularly drive (sensibly) over country roads which are often covered in mud, every time I brake my ABS goes bonkers...

No wonder so many of you stack your cups...

maybe sweeping statements that about stacking cups because of NO abs gets tiresome ;)

Its that one time out of a hundred that your concentration will lapse and its probably 50/50 in saying abs no crash, no abs-crash.

I'm a firm believer in that 'you don't need it' but tbh its there and I don't worry about it.

It would piss me off on a track. It pisses me off when I'm nearing the limit of grip and the pedal starts hammering before I get any tyre slip. Remember slipping is different to locking. However, some people on this forum simply refuse to even take on board this basic principle. They're all engineering experts and racing drivers of course ;)

But for general road driving I'm not bothered either way about my car having ABS.
