how does the 182 compare

well i was going to get a new civic type R but the importing company have been messing me around. so in the end i thought get a 182 clio. i was thinking at 1st the 182 cup but for 0.2 of a second its hardly worth bothering so i thought the 182 will be better with the amount of extras you get like climate control, half leather e.t.c. i was wondering how the clio matches up to the civic type R?

i wouldnt just look at them in terms of figures to decide. they are a very different drive you really need to drive them back to back to see which you prefer. i have the 182 and my dad has a type r both are great cars but a very different drive.

I should think they are both very much the same,

CTR = 1200kg kerb weight and 200bhp = 167bhp per tonne

182 = 1085kg kerb weight and 182bhp = 167bhp per tonne.

very similar cars in terms of outright acceleration and pace

very different cars in terms of driving and looks,my 172 has imho all round driving......my honda has to have the nuts wrung out of it but once going its quick...the renault is easier to go fast but the honda once reving gives you what your looking for

differences i noticed between the two were. better seats and seating position in the honda. better overal build quality in the honda. fantastic gearbox and engine in the honda. honda is a harsher ride and the suspension less fogiving, it does corner flatter than the clio but not by alot(assuming you spec the cup handling pack on the 182) but is very bumpy as a result. the clio feels happier changing direction and is more "chuckable" possibly due partly to its size but the type r grips better. then there is the issue of spec the clio has xenons with light sensor auto wipers obc cruise control traction control full climate a/c etc all as standard whereas the type r you have to pay an additional 1500 for (manual) a/c. in terms of residual values the type r does alot better but i dont know if thats an issue for you. similar performace but they deliver it very differently the type r you have to rev the balls out of it and always be in the right gear whereas the 182 pulls better from lower down and doesnt have to be kept in such a small band of the revs to keep it on the boil.
