How easy is the 182 to steal?

  Nissan 350Z
How easy is it for a thief to steal an otherwise unprotected 182 - i'm talking just the std alarm / immobiliser. I saw a Pug 306 today in a place where i park relatively regularly in newcastle with the door bent open, and it got me thinking how easy it is to nick one of these?

I've got a Disklok, is it worth using it, or is the std stuff good enough to keep em out?

Cat 1 alarm and immobilser.

Without the keys the common crook would smash a window and open the door but he'd have trouble starting it.

Professional gangs - piece of piss. Like everything else.

  MERCEDES CLS AMG
i could have any car off here that has been fitted with the standard manufacturers immobiliser and key within 60 secs put it like that

  307 diesel & 1.2 TCE Clio
As has happen often, they go for the keys. But pros with take it regardless keys or no keys. Nothing is safe anymore.

As said above, if the pro's want your car they will take it....end of story. Its the opportunist you need to protect against.

Security at one of our sites caught a gang loading my bosses R32 on to low loader, in broad daylight.

If they want they will get it.:(

Can I just say while its okay to discuss the security of 172/182 and clios alike, could people please refrain from posting specific information that could help a car theif..

Cheers !

^^ not being funny but I don't think this thread should be on here with what is going on at the moment... sorry if you disagree

err mine has a detachable steering wheel so how gonna drive it jned ? like with both hands clasped around the hub like you hold c***s :D

  push bike 2.0
not many people know this, but if u remove the rear wiper and put it up the exhaust the car will unlock and start! amazing

  BMW M3
Well, i'm hoping my motion sensor will go someway to deter theives from nicking my car unless they get the keys.

I saw the other thread, and the guy has my sympathies... and I'm not being funny either, but I dont see the problem with asking this question. I didnt do it to be insensitive to anyone, I genuinely want to know.

Right, bottom line:-

I know a professional thief will "have it" regardless.... but is the standard kit good enough to stop an opportunist.... is it actually worth using a steering lock, or not? That really is all I wanted to know. The steering lock sure is inconvenient.... but if it would help ;)

to be honest day to day ***** who nick cars aint gonna nick a clio with a CAT1 system without the keys.

I have a disklok too, safe as can be really. Plus the disklok stands out.

The most common car to be done at the minute is not a clio. Im talking theft from not of.

  106 GTi
I use a disklok too, I see it as an added deterant hoping they will leave it alone just because it adds a little more hassle.

  Mini Cooper S sport
I just wouldn't have thought it was worth the effort for a pro to bother nicking a Clio without the keys - I know of course some do - but it's just a Clio!

I think this is quite a valid thread actually, especially as I've seen quite a few 'stolen' threads on here since I joined, but as far as I know ALL of them were taken by thieves breaking into people's houses and stealing the keys.

IMHO look at it like this.

2 Clio's in a car park.

Car A: has disklock and cat 1 alarm and immobiliser
Car B: no disklock, no alarm, no immobiliser

Your everyday oppertunist theif will take the easiest option.

  LiquidPhoto.co.uk
people with disklocks,, where do you keep the key?

having it with the car keys is kinda pointless!

I think realisticly these days people alwyas steal cars using the keys. Unless they have some specialsed kit (probably different for each car type) they arent going to easily bypass a modern cars immobiliser. I have a clifford G5 and Tracker............stickers on my car hehe would bother with the expense of hassle of having either although a tracker would be good to retain your no claims if someone does nick your motor. Alarms I personally think are a total waste of time.

I dont think alarms are a waste of time. My last car got broken in to on new years eve and they managed to break open my locked glovebox and nick some pretty valuable stuff, disconnect my handsfree phone kit and steal my top range Oakley sunglasses that were hidden. And then, if that wasnt the worse of it, proceeded to kick fu*k out of the interior.

And am certian that if i had a 130db cobra siren blasting away, like i have in the clio, hardly any of that would have happened.

No matter what security you have on the car its better than having non. As said before if they want it they will have it and they are getting to the point they dont break into the car anymore they just take the keys from you. I feel for the guy that this happened to

The best way is to have a pitbull in your car, go on you thieving s**t take it now

But the 306s are a piece of piss to break into. I had one, and they bent the door back. They got a pair of specs, a pair of animal sunglasses and a cash card that was about 2 months out of date that I'd forgotten about (all out of view I will add) It had a Autolok big yellow half moon on the steering wheel, but they weren't trying to nick the car, just take anything that wasn't nailed down (although they left the CDs as they were copies [backup copies I may add]) If they're after something for a fix, they'll be more likely to try a car that isn't alarmed because the surrounding environment is not alerted to the fact that someone is trying to get in, and also they want an easy life!

I wish that they gave the Clio deadlocking!

Is there not an alarm system where you have to enter a code via a single descret button. It warns you soon after driving if you havent done it and then shuts the car down on the spot with the alarm blazing... sounds good to me but would be a pain to have to enter the code all time.

Watch this space as i am in the middle of a prototype fingerprint immobilser with anti hyjack. If the print is not taken with 30 seconds of the car being started or a door being opened when the car is running it cuts out. I started designing this for my passat and it got out of control.

A link to the original post for the passat immobiliser

Cant really say much else but there will be a discount for you guys obviously LOL

Also is this the type of thing you would buy ?

Sorry what I meant was having the stickers as a deterrant makes actually having an alarm a waste of time. If somone sees a clifford sticker and still breaks into your car they would have broken in anyway. Sticker is 3 quid off ebay worth every penny!

Yep, some little chavs did the same to me while my car was parked in Coventry. Had a full silver disklock on, flashing light from alarm on the dash and everything. They still tried though. Had nothing on show and they tried to open the driver's side, not the passenger's nearest the glovebox. Obviously not the most intelligent theives. Didnt manage to open the door as I had deadlocking! Still cost £300 to get repaired. F*****g c**k w*****g chavs.

There was a guy once on another forum who had an Evo 6. He lived down a very narrow straight road where you get cars parked on either side. ANd you can only really get one car down there unless there is an empty space you can pull into. One of them terraced house type streets.

Anyways, the Evo 6 was belled up big time and a trsacker. Basically if the car was lifted or moved or even coughed on the alarm would go off. The car was parked underneith the guy who owned it's bedroom. And he parked it right up to the neighbours car and put his girlfriend car in front.

Now bearing in mind there are people in all the houses and him literally above the car. He came out in the morning and the Evo wasn't there. No one had heard a thing or anything. It couldnt have been lifted on the back of a lorry as the road was too small to get a low loader down there. He never heard a thing nor his neighbours and his girlfriends car wasn't even touch.

To this day he hasn't a clue what happened to it. When he reported it in the monring it would have been a few hours since it was taken so when he rang the tracker company they never got a signal.

If they want your car that much they'll get it.

lol - thanks for letting me know. I will bring a spare steering wheel with me when i come to take yours if im running low on spares ;) if that doesnt work i will get your mother to put her mouth round the column shaft and control it with her powerful jaw muscles.

if it s astandard fit tracker, a theif would know where it is, rip it out and throw it out the window..

now if you put a tracker n a clio.. surely theres a 'common place' to fit it so they could check that place, rip it out and throw it out the window..

if you had a tracker would you actually put 'tracker' stickers on the window?
in one way it may deter people from attempting to steal it..
but then in the other way it would tell the theif.. ''ive got a tracker, so check the usual places and rip it out before you go anywhere'' and if the cars recovered anyway,, would you really want it after some cheesehammer chav scrote had been ragging it around
