how is a typical engine mounted

  Clio 1.4, SV650S

just wondering how engines are actually mounted to a car, and how the front suspension works.

Right. the engine mounts onto a subframe, and this is secured to the chassis? there is a top engine mount and a gearbox mount that go to other parts of the chassis?

are the swing arm bits of the suspension bolted to the subframe at one end, and then connected to the suspension turrets via the spring/damper assembly? the hubs and brake calipers bolted to the ends of the swing arms? and driveshafts come from the gearbox out to the hubs with CV joints on them?

this might sounds really basic to some guys just trying to think about how engine conversions and mounting works while im bored at work!!

Not all cars have top engine mounts, it varies from engine/car.

the swing arms, are actually called wishbones.

Basically sounds correct thou, if your going for a simple explination of how its all connected :)

so to stick an engined in the boot of a car you could take engine and subframe, and construct say a box section frame that goes from subframe to engine mounts and weld it into the back of the car, then just need to fix the suspension turrets and it goes (more or less) into the boot? engine, transmission and suspension

:devilish:
