how many miles once petrol light comes on?

Car  57 Ibiza Formula Sport
in my ford ka i used to drive it til it was dry! but i darent do that in the 182. the ka didnt hae a petrol light so i had to guess. was wondering how many miles are left in the 182 when it comes on? ive not risked finding out yet, the most ive done is 10 miles with it on.

ta :)

About 30 depending on how you drive :)

Dont think it will do the engnine much good running it dry though.

When the light comes on there is supposed to be about 5 litres left in the tank, i have had the needle off the gauge, the light on for about 15 - 20 miles and when i eventually filled up it took 43 litres, meaning there was probably about 7 litres left in the tank.

My Petrol light comes on when my computer below speedo has about 39 miles left.

Dunno if this is correct or what :(

But sometimes i've saw me chancing it for about 20 miles or so once it has came on ;)

I think I've had about 30 out of mine, I filled up before it ran out, so don't know how much further I could have gone!

The light indicates you have 1.1 gallons supposidly left so depends how you drive I'd say 40 is about the limt but 50 should be doable before its realy dead.

god thats a lot! ive only had 10 miles on the light before ive put in. just been and put some in now, on £10 of fuel the computer says 115 miles left til i need to put more in... yeah right! lol

My ka doesnt have a petrol light! i didnt think any did! :dapprove: yours must be better!

Light comes on at 40m and goes - - - - - - below 30m

Can never understand why it does'nt run to 0m I know it would'nt be 100% accurate but it would be better than - - - - - - -

i never let mine get below 1/4 tank as you start picking up the 'SHITTY' fuel at the bottom of the tank and filling your filter with it.

Prefer to run full tank to half then top up.

everyone's choice. :-)

Thats the trip computer though. And since it works of the fuel level anf mg it comes on at a set fuel level (1 gallonish)

It isn't that accurate though the fuel gauage at those leveld hence the trip doens't work that low who would you ever run it that low just to prove a point nayway you know you need to fill up.

The furthest I would ever risk in the Cup was getting to work on the petrol light. Thats about 26 miles. I fill up by work as it is a lot cheaper. But you could prob get about 40 out of it before you ran the risk of running out. I'd still only end up putting 45 litres in after driving to work, so it still had 5 litres left in it.

My 172 Cup ran out on the m-way 15 miles after it came on.....and it wasn't being gunned at the time !

And just because renault like being regular the light used to come on in my 1.6 and it still had about 2 gallons left in, if you let the light come on you could only ever get 9 gallons in before the pump cut off. And this 172 is completely different again :S, good old renault got to love them :approve:.

Fuel gauge has huge tolerances in it its the way there allowed to be.

Fuel light on, but gun it anyway, good lad ! All cars go so much better on the vapour anyway .... till you get fuel starvation mid corner lol

Thats what a fuel filters job is...... its a stupid myth.

think the answer to this is, that its pretty unreliable and dont trust it too much!! lol

Ive had 50+ and then other times only ten miles. ran out a few times in my first 172.

Jesus I have never run out of petrol in my car,
Sure I have ran out of petrol in my XR-125, and my R6 but thats motorbikes for you.
Generally once my petrol light comes on I drive to the nearest Shell garage for a feeding of the POWER.
There is never a garage more than 10 miles away from me so sorted!

I do about 30ish nothing more. Sometimes im sure i have felt it judder from lack of fuel.

I did over 50 miles after the light came on last Sunday. Each petrol station I came to was more expensive, and I'm tight. Eventually bottled it when the secret menu (press end of stalk and switch on) thing indicated I had 0 litres in the tank. Put a fiver in, and the light stayed on!
