How to remove Diesal from carpet?

  Golf 7.5R & Clio 200
A friend of mine has just bought a Subaru, and for some reason the previous owner left a jerry can full of diesal in the boot, and the lid wasn'#t quite screwed on.

Now, it's gone everywhere. He's removed all the 'loose' fuel, and tried fairy liquid with water and a brush, but it still stinks.

Any idea's on how to perminantly remove the smell/stain?

No pictures unfortunatley, but I'm popping over there on Sunday to see if I can help at all. What would you recomend using?

I think I'd personally bin all the carpet / trim that's had it soaked in, you will never remove it.

You may improve the smell using some very strong degreaser

Can you remove the carpet? If so, baking soda rubbed into the stain and left for five minutes then scrub with a degreaser and rinse off with warm/hot water.

Should get some out.

Agree with JamesBryan, but look into those carpet granules you can get. Shake them over the carpet to soak up the moisture that will be present. Once done, follow up with a dedicated cleaner, medium stiffness brush to agitate and then a damp MF cloth to remove. Keep rinsing the cloth in warm water to remove the diesel.

Using the 100% accurate source of Breaking Bad, when Jesse pours gasoline all over the White families carpet, they get proffesional cleaners out, who tell them that you can only do so much.
