HP Laptop not coming out of hibernation?

dk

  911 GTS Cab
Any IT geeks out there have users with hp laptops and have them complaining that it won't come out of hibernation or sleep?

we have this problem at work and i am included as i have a 6710p that won't do this and its bloody frustrating as i can't go to a client and open it up ready for use, need to boot it etc.

I've checked the hp support site, googled it and still no joy.

It seems the hdd doesn't want to come out of the hibernation, the laptop wakes up, just gives a blank screen and no hdd activity.

Its running XP, tried attaching an external monitor to make sure it wasn't the screen, its running the latest everything.

has anyone come across this please and managed to fix it?

thanks in advance.

it is disabled, its when i want to manually put it in that causes me a problem, when i leave for a meeting and press the power button and put it into hibernation so that when i get to the meeting i just press the power button and its back up in seconds with everything ready, so much easier.

During the day its disabled though so it doesn't accidently fall into it.

it doesnt sound like it is or else it wouldnt go into hibernation at all, have u nt tried putting it into standby instead of hibernation?

i'll check it out this afternoon, i've never really understood the difference between hibernation and standby though?

standby puts the computer to sleep

hibernation uses a file to save your current session on the computer so that when its turned off and on again it uses the file to bring you back to exactly where u are

standby is better used if you are e.g. go to meetings back and fourth and things like that

hibernation is better used if your going to have your laptop off for a while

if that makes sense lol

try going into the power settings and go to tab that says hibernation, it should be ticked at enable hibernation, untick it click apply and ok, restart your computer and go back into the settings and reenable hibernation, there could be a problem with the current hibernation file, if it still doesnt work i would just use the standby/sleep option instead.

thanks, I will give that a go, it is strange as we have about 8 of them and one person doesn't have the problem and the rest of us do but they are all from the same image so i'll check his hibernation settings and do what you said.

I'll report back!

thanks

I would also check by doing a comparison between the one that doesnt have a problem and one that does to see what the power profile settings are for switch off the screen after a certain amount of time. I know its not linked directly with the hibernation system but I have an issue on my acer laptop where by if i leave if for the alotted amount of time for it to turn the sreen off, most of the time when I go to move the mouse it doesnt turn the screen back on.

Might be worth just setting in the power settings to never turn the screen off and see what happens. Worth a try.

had a look this afternoon, and i had hibernate turned off so i was having problems with standby infact, tried hibernation and it actually worked so its the standby i need to sort.

I checked the other laptop and it had hibernation enabled but he tried standby and that worked? SO i have now turned on hibernation and will try it tomorrow from being put in overnight and see what it does, all very strange though.

seen this before on plenty of different laptops and even desktops. might be an xp problem tbh, sometimes it works soemtimes it doesn't, i don't personally use it though so never really investigated it much.

turned hibernation on and that worked, so its just standby that doesn't so i will just use hibernation.
