HPF , Gain , Eh???

  E90 320d M Sport
Hi there,

I have got a Pioneer DEH 55BT head unit and a Fli 12" active sub in the boot.

I need some advice really on what settings I should set up on the HU. I have left the bass low for the 4 speakers, Set the HPF to 60hz and put the Subwoofer output to 60hz.

On the sub itself we have frequency - ranges from 40hz to 250hz
Gain - 0 -12db
Bass Boost.

The frequency is the on i'm looking at.

Is the HPF at 60hz ok? Do I match it to 60 hz on the Sub frequency level?

i'd up it to 80hz for the hpf and lpf

bass boost to off

then set the hu to the max volume you listen to it at and set the gain to suit it

When dealing with crossovers you need to firstly decide which unit your actually going to use for adjustment, then open or disable adjustment on all other items....

If your opting for Head Unit adjustment, then the amps crossovers, (if fitted), should be set to Flat, Off, or Full. Crossover frequency should be set at the higher point, (in this case 250Hz)....

As a starting point I would set the Head Units HPF at around 100Hz & the Sub LPF at around 80Hz, however, I have no idea regarding your Head Units inbuilt crossover roll off slopes, so lower settings may work better....

Setting the HPF to 80Hz & the LPF to 60Hz may well yield better results, again dependant on roll off slopes....

I would try to avoid setting both crossovers at similar points, this will encourage two different types of speaker to produce similar frequencies, this may cause some cancellation issues....

If your Head Unit offers adjustable roll off slopes & output levels, (as Alpine digital crossover networks do), then I would stick to 12dB or 24dB slopes....
