I bought a DAS 6 kit :)

  Golf GT & A4 Avant
Our new Focus is pretty soft in comparison. is RB, LY etc hard as it's not a standard Renualt colour and sprayed seperately to the normal colours / clios

Is there any recommendation on the kits offered from I4D? or are the polishes not as good as the menzerna ones offered with the cleanyourcar kits??

Also regarding the RB clearcoat, as me been a noob to DA polisher, would a it still be wise to only use a fine cut polish on the clearcoat to remove the swirls in it or would i just be wasting my time and start off with something like the poorboys ssr2??

I personally would buy the polisher and pads/polish seperate, that's just me though.

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Kestrel_DAS-6_Menz_Kit_1_1.html That kit is decent. Buy a glaze at the same time. Britemax Black max. :)

Menzerna pads aren't great but they would do mate.

Ahh really! Cool. I'll get that drying towel then.
Any specific Microfibres you recommend. Could do with some new ones!

So if I was to buy them separate:

Currently by hand I'd been using AG Extra Gloss Protection as a sealant, then Megs #16 as a wax.
Is the sealant and/or wax applied by machine too, or by hand? I know wax is kind of a personal thing with huge variances on price.
Is there a specific sealant you'd recommend?
Excuse my amateurishness, but what does the glaze do, at what stage does it go on?!

Thanks for all your help btw!

Cheers Gally

Suppose i did as you would and buy separately id be on a similar if not identical shopping list to the guy above.

Only want to get it right once so might as well do it from the start as its more economical that way..

Your car is RB so i'd go for a wax and a good durable started wax is this... http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Autoglym_HD_Wax_1.html That's a decent price. With a decent shampoo it'll last 6months+ mate. Apply about a panel at a time and remove. DO NOT DO THE FULL CAR. :)

The glaze is in essence a glaze. It adds a little extra depth to the paintwork whilst cleansing it ready for wax/sealant. It also fills any imperfections that maybe the polish won't take out with one pass and all whilst being uber safe and not removing clearcoat so you can use it over and over again, especially before shows. :)

Wax by hand, glaze by machine using low speed and blue pad mate. Read up on glazing, research everything you can.

Ah I've been thinking about getting HD Wax for a while! That one it is!
Yea lol, I never do the full car anyway!

I use Megs Gold Shampoo, and if doing any polishing, always clay it too using megs clay kit.

So I polish first, then glaze, then wax?

Yea I am doing that mate! Soo much to read through! Well exciting getting the little list together!
Hoping to get it all for my birthday on Saturday lol, so thats why I'm getting everything!

I'd recommend getting the green hex pad also, use this more than any of my others and I have almost all of the hex range

I use the Green one more aswell actually Dave, the green spot pad is fantastic for decent cut/polish.

I was trying for a happy medium with the white one. :)

Well got most of mine ordered from I4D, just need to sort out the hex pads and make the RB spotless..

Also gone for some Ironx soap gel as well.. :)

I bought bit by bit really. Washing media is the important biut to start with.

These days if I was starting all I would need would be the correct wash media, a glaze and some AG HD. Easily less than £100 start up.

  BMW 330ci
So far I've got decent wash media, really need to get some new and better stuff, I've got AG SRP and EG. Could do with extra products though, really want a DA as I've got swirl marks everywhere which really spoils the car. Oh and got Meguiars (sp) tyre shine.

Endurance tyre gel? It's afavourite of mine tbh.

In the meantime of buying a DA etc... Maybe look into something like Poorboys blackhole glaze and a good wax like Autoglym HD. About £30 from i4detailing. Comes with 2 applicators and an MF cloth.

  BMW 330ci
Yeah its purple, and smells nice I think lol. Looks great and last quite a long time tbf.

Yeah don't really want to go straight in and buy a DA due to money, but I have heard a lot about Poorboys blackhole glaze, is it not similar to AG SRP, and will look into the wax.

Should I clay, and use something like tardis, and IronX ?

Yea I'd recommend clay mate. I used it whenever I was going to do any polishing by hand.
Never used IronX. I did use AG Tar remover though.
Decent pressure washer is really useful too

My list above (with the help of Gally) is all on order. Hopefully receiving soon! Can't wait.

as Gally says, there is so much more you can do to get a nice finish before investing in a machine polisher.

by introducing more in depth de-contamination to you wash stage by tar and iron removers, claying etc will show a new side to your paint. Then there is cleansers / paint cleaners and glazes that will add more depth, flake pop and hide some swirling and other marks. even trying different waxes and sealants can improve the paint finish.

I did the above for many years before getting a DA. getting the above sorted with a good wash technique is best before taking on machine polishing as it can be a lot to take in, very expensive and not really get the best from your products.

don't forget to put discount codes in to chemical guys 'DW1' if anyone else is buying same kit and 'cliosport' on i4D. :)

  RB 182
Gally with the above shopping list that James put up is there a cleanser you'd say would be suitable to use with the HD wax or does that only really compare when getting into the territory of Glasur and the like.

Im unsure as to what wax has been previously used so was looking at Lime Prime prior to polish and then Lusso after. Only on the first one though, then to continue with the Lusso from there on in..

AutoFinesse Rejuvenate mate then Amigo by hand or machine. :)

If you can just buy a bottle of Rejuvenate it's super cheap and blows LP out the water, those products followed by Oro will look fantastic.

You could even get away with rejuvenate or Amigo I just like overkill and extra filling! :D
