I dont want a Friday afternoon car

  Mondeo STTDCI

Pierre, Thierry, Fabien, Alain, Andre, Gerard,

I beg of you, please dont make me a Friday afternoon car.

Yves, dont mess up the electrics, Sebastien dont mess up the clutch,

I want my car to be perfect, dont mess up its cost me too much!

Phillipe dont forget, the Cup suspension pack,

I want it to handle sweetly, and Ive paid fair whack.

Marcel concentrate on my Arctic blue paint,

Get it wrong and Ill faint.

No scratches on dents or swirls or dints

I hope you froggies take the hint!

Theres no such thing as a Friday afternoon car from Renault. Its more Thursday as they are too busy eating cheese, and riding around on bikes with stripy jumpers on with garlick around their necks on Fridays. :p

From what Ive seen about the French build quality your better of buying a German car.

But then again the Germans are allowed to drink at work (well they can at our place) infact they have vending machine stocked full.

did you know the french have a different week to us ? goes like this .. sunday, friday, friday, friday, friday, friday, saturday. lets hope yours get built at the weekend ;)

Whats so great about a German car ? The German ADAC customer satisfaction index put Mercedes in last place at 32/32, VW 31/32, Opel 27/32, Audi 26/32 Renault were 23/32. Top Gear reliability survey put the MB M class 133/137, C Class 127/137. The Which breakdown survey put the MB E class 84/87, Audi TT bottom at 87/87.

  Renault Laguna Coupe

LOL @ Daves poem! :D I dont think its seriously meant as a critisism of Renault build quality - Id be thinking the same thing if I was waiting for a 911 to be delivered!

Its a imagination rather than anything else about German build quality.

I based the idea on my own experiances with the Germans and French at work.

BTW Im of to look at a 172 this afternoon however many problems French cars have I still like them. But at this rate Ill never make it there.

bout time somebody hit back at this delusionary "wonderfulness" of blinkin German cars - we have a fleet 7 series that went back to the dealer about 6 times in the first 3 months we owned it - it was that well built - and cost a hell of a lot more than your average Renault I have to add !!!

I have a Friday 5.00pm Clio Cup! - and it was probably a bank holiday too!

The car has had AA renault assistance out 6 times in just under 6 months.

1,

I have a Friday 5.00pm Clio Cup and it was probably a bank holiday too!

I have had AA Renault Assistance out 6 times in just under 6 months L

1, After 1 month the car started to not start, the engine would turn over but wouldn’t ignite. AA called out started as soon as he got there. He plugged in his little computer and no fault was registered. The same thing continued to happen and the car use to take upto 30 minutes to start.

2 same thing two weeks later getting mildly pissed off AA called out didn’t start first time when he was there so at least he relised I wasn’t making things up now! But still nothing registered, suggested it might be a chip in the key or some loose connection. Drove to Crawley Down Renault dealership, had no courtesy car for me so after serious complaining got a hire car a Daewoo Matiz! What like for like that was Never Driven such a dangerous car. It went on two wheels even round little corners! Got My car back and I was much happier. Dealership couldn’t find a problem but insisted they had checked all possible connections and shouldn’t happen again.

3 Well I was happy for another two weeks It happened again and again, so couldn’t be bothered with AA this time wasn’t going to take it to the previous dealership so this time took in too Renault Croydon. Booked it in and everything when I got there still no Courtesy car! Got a hire car but I had to pay for the insurance so wasn’t very happy. 3 days later… Said they had found the problem and it was faulty throttle bodies so got it back and was happy again. It didn’t go wrong again… until!

4 Got woken up one night and I heard what sounded like an electric shorting sound coming from the bonnet, and the hazards would go off about every 15 seconds but no noise from the alarm. I unplugged the battery went to bed and called AA out in the morning. AA man came plugged battery back on no problem! So off he went.

5 Following morning got woken up again same thing happening, this time called him out there within 5 minutes he said it was a fault with the alarm but he couldn’t do any thing so he followed me to my worst dealer with my hazards flashing every so often. Spoke to dealer couldn’t promise when it would be fixed, what a surprise had to get a hire car again 1 day AA covered the rest I had to pay for.

6 Got the car back they replaced the entire Alarm system. So no problems… Until

7 Yesterday, Driving down the motorway suddenly a big boom the car sounds like some jet vibrating and deafening - the exhaust! Pulled over looked underneath the pipe had sheared completely next to the cat. Called AA Towed to some dealer in Kent usual top customer service no courtesy vehicle couldn’t promise when it could be done possibly Monday or Tuesday. But seriously a 6 month old car with the exhaust completely shearing at the catalytic converter? Apparently so

So thank you to All the French Production line workers who wanted to go home early that 1 Friday afternoon, you bunch of C*nts.

But I still love my Cup and when its working I have the most fun that I have had compared to any other car I have driven.

I have had many cars and IMHO I have summarised my opinions of the brands ive had, they are all performance models ive had and obviousley generalised comments.

Audi: Cant fault em

BMW - heavy, slow ( unless larger engine ) uneconomical - but provide relaxed driving with that bit of prestige

Citroen - sh*t

Ford - simple, straightfrorward cars. Reliable but too common. RS Turbos and cossies - grrrrrrreat!

Merc - crap seats

Peugeot - quite stylish, usually nippy but poor choice for interior trim. handle well

Renault - Quite pleasing - both the 172s ive owned were spot on albeit a few rattles.

Toyota - Bland interiors, super reliable would have another

Vauxhall - had loads. great engines, poor handling the v grille is sh*t though

VW - Dull styling, comfortable interiors, feel well engineered. Too expensive though - newer models are losing their edge.

I know Im tempting fate here, but what the hell......

6 months, 14000 miles, and Ive still got a Cup with no problems.

Also owned a 95 Porsche 911 for the last 6 years, done over 120,000 - still drives like its new - guess Germanic build quality myth cant be all lies

  Clio 197

Back in 1987 VW made a bunch of special Golf GTI 16v cars for various racing series. They had no sunroofs, no air and probably a few other little modifications.

Thing was they were built on Friday the 13th!
