I drove a 182 Trophy and it blew me away!

  Clio 182FF
All I can say is wow! The power feels awesome and going back to my 1.2 is hardwork but the experience makes we want a 172/182 more than ever.

This particular Trophy was number 50 of 500 and I must admit it was a bit tatty which put me off - also has almost 50,000 miles on it.

What are the differences between the 172 and 172 cup and the same for the 182 and 182 cup? I checked wikipedia and it didn't really say very much.

I noticed that the car felt a lot loser than my Clio but I'm assuming this is because its almost double the mileage of mine.

Cheers.

If you stretch to a 182 just get one with Cup Packs on it as you get the Luxury Side but still get the Suspension from the Cup.

Trophy are Epic Cars but I'd still muss my Luxuries too much....... 172 Cup over a 172 for me anyday though I just love 172 Cups

Are you definately after a 182 then? Just how much better to drive is the the trophy from a 1.2 then? does it feel like a competely different car?

Trophy feels 10x better than a standard 1.2, much more planted and sure footed round the corners, acceleration is always nice and the recaro's are comfortable for a while.

Sounds like you've got experience? ;)

Well I've never driven anything much faster than my current Clio and by blowing me away I mean I was shocked by the incredible amount of power there was. I liked the car alot, but after researching the car it doesn't have a glowing history and the paintwork was in poor condition.

I noticed the steering seemed very lose but connected but a nagging told me that this Clio would be a bad investment, just got that vibe from it. Didn't feel right.

All I know is that I think it's a 182 or 182 cup that I want. I am right in saying that the 182 (non cup version) is more comfortable etc... that's why it's called the full fat one right?

Mines gonna end up for sale soon :(

They are awesome cars. What would people miss from a FF182? pressing the inferior manual AC button?? lol

I'd miss my xenons. They're never off.

Someone commented about that on one of the photos on Flickr, I've never noticed tbh!

Brought my 1.6 to uni and drove that in instead of my mate driving us in his 1.2, sounded so much more clunky and rattley. :dapprove: Made me realise how nippy 1.2's are around town too, mine didn't feel any better than his. Which reminds me, can someone drive my car at weekend and tell me what's up with it, please?!

Having been 'chauffeured' by W17GLE in his ph-quick around the country lanes of Rivington, they're noticeably quicker though lol.

The trophy has everything you need. Xenons would be nice but not a must for me. plus i love the recaros. never uncomfortable!! out handles pretty much everything (with obvious exceptions. coilies etc.).

I cant fault mine. never let me down, but it needs a sports exhaust as i hate not being able to hear the engine all the time (milltek on mine).

And seriously, how can someone even think about a comparison between 1.2 and Trophy.....BEHAVE!!

I'm thinking I won't be able to find a Trophy in my area for a reasonable price which is mint but I would be happy with a blue or blackgold 182.

Need to hurry up and find one because I got out dragged by a heap of s**t Alpha lol.

Only car I ve ever driven that has been better than a Trophy is an 11 year old dc2. You can basically jump in and drive it fast without even thinking, its ability to corner and then control any loss of control is out of this world. Similar to a Trophy, but the Trophy is not as flexible to control but still unreal round corners.

Closest car to a Trophy for handling is an r26 but too big for me and not as playful. However, I have not driven one over a sustained period.

Trophy rules! lol.
Seriously best car i have ever owned and i dont miss anything appart from the lights switching themselves on at night time.

I simply asked if they felt completely different to drive or just faster and better handling.

Tbh if you have never driven one its a perfectly reasonable question to me after all they are essentially the same car, if you picked the average person off the street and put a trophy next to a 1.2 at best the most they'd notice is wheels and exhaust.

i miss going in something ie 182,106gti,172 and thinking wow this is quick, its horrible when you get used to it, i want to buy a 1.2 for a year and not go in anything quick, just so i can get that wow factor back of a hot hatch, everything feels normal now in the rallye :(

I have that feeling all the time, as my daily driver is a slow ass berlingo van... the 172 feels like a rocket when i get to drive it :approve:

They're all light years ahead of a 1.2. IMO yes they do feel like an entirely different car. Harder, more direct. Less elastic between the control surfaces and the bits they control. Obviously monumentally faster too.

FFS. The 1*2 xenons are s**t! Poor light spread, standard lights with uprated bulbs give better light coverage.
The Trophy's the peak of the 1*2 range, full stop;)

Knows Warren. The 182 xenons are pretty s**te TBH. Sure, they look nice as long as you take the sidelights out but, TBH the pikey lamps give a nicer light with uprated whiter bulbs. Just another misguided reason for the FF heroes to jack off over their awesome machines with vinyl chairs.

  200 cup & 106 GTi
I've got upgraded philips bulbs in my trophy, more than adequate!

Plus with the leather & alcantara rear seats & doorcards it makes it much more like a standard car, not so poverty spec.

That coupled with my freshly refurbed dampers, uprated brakes & new wishbones etc means it's just like driving a new trophy, but better :D

Disliking the red paintjob on the Trophy's. That's not a Renault colour... imho.

I would choose a 172 over a 182 Cup!

But hey a 2.0 RS is in another league... no matter if you have a 1.6 16v and the guy was coming from a 1.2 so no wonder he's blown away. -Va Voom-
