this is a prototype i came up with (yes, ino it makes no sense, but its not meant to lol) to see if its possible to make it into an actual homepage (from adobe photoshop) or any page for that reason for a website..?

so the idea is to make this type of thing, webpage (using layers etc on photoshop) an get it up on the net aswell as making the links etc etc work, just like any other normal website...

help would be very helpfull!

it is possible. As you already have the image, just chop it up in fireworks and export as .css. You then have a webpage and can add text etc.
You can probably use a table to align everything on the page if .css is too much. I think that fireworks can do that you too but am not 100%.

ok good good, so all i need to tie everything together is fireworks?

and this will allow me to have made an actual working website once uploaded onto the net? yes? i hope so! lol

It is definitely possible and there are many ways of achieving the same outcome. I won't offer to code it, as it will be messy; I taught myself so I'm no expert.

Which way you do it comes down to how much of the page you want to be editable really.

well only thing i would need to edit really is making the links work back and forth from page to page and thats it... everything else i would leave although its a picture... if u get me?

You'd be better off having propper text in there rather than a picture of the text TBH. It is easy enough to do though. Have you ever made a site before?

I taught myself with a couple of magazines, Dreamweaver for Dummies and Google. Follow a couple of example projects and you can make your own fairly quickly.

use a template instead mate, much easier. Unless you want to learn to create websites.

If you just want a place to host images/infomation I would just use a free template. Plenty of amazing ones out there, then just stick it in dreamweaver and type your content.

Slice it up in photoshop using the slice tool.

File > Save for web.
Saves it out as images and HTML, then open the HTML page, edit in Dreamweaver, takes a bit of planning cause you need to think where your gonna type your content.

Would be easier learning basic XHTML/CSS though tbh.

Easiest way to do it to be honest :)

I have to send newsletters out to 200,000+ members each week and I create them in Photoshop and then slice them up.
Ditch the text part of graphic though and give that cell a fixed width (after you have sliced it up and exported it) so you can type into it instead.

ok gr8, so do everything exept all the text in photoshop, leave writing all the text until its uploaded into "dreamweaver"? is it worth downloading both dreamweaver and fireworks or is one better than the other?

thanks alot guys! really helpfull!

Fireworks is quite similar to Photoshop (although isn't as good). It ties in well with Dreamweaver but I think you will overcomplicated things by trying to use Fireworks if you haven't used it before.

Do you know how to use the slice tool in Photoshop? If so, just practice on something random (like a picture of a car) and then when you 'Save it for web' it should slice it up and automatically create you a .html document.

It's really not as hard as it sounds but I think you are trying to make it complicated for yourself if you already know how to use Photoshop.
