Anyone on here done it ??

to be honest you're better off buy a complete car thats been bashed

you need from memory

engine
box
ecu
uch
decoder ring
key
engine loom
dash loom

The guys that offered me it actually have 2 complete 172's which have been bashed up haha because i got the rear bumper.

Think its certainly soemthing to look into in the future maybe.

well the ecu, decoder ring and the uch and key HAS to come from one car

f**k, that just looks like a huge mess. The last picture is class though. Looks mint.

He never actually gave me a price. I am giving the project alot of thought though because ive paid for my car, it looks smart in my opinion and i could save up. Get the job done and not want another car for years.

  Lionel Richie
who k-tec? yeah they're good

its a time consuming job, nothing hard as such, just stupid s**t like removing the entire dash etc

  LY 182
not a bad job really need complete parts though its all plug and play (and easy) if you get complete looms from one car but a mare otherwise

  Ph1
He has a point.

What a lot of messing about when you can pick the complete car up for just over a grand with tax and mot lol

well.. i like my car. Its all been paid for. £4995. It has no problems, it looks how i want it to look. Why not shove a 2litre in the front and have some fun ?? If i was to buy a 172 id basically have it looking the same anyway.. plus it might end up being a complete shagger. At least i know my car has been looked after, serviced regularly etc so if i can get a good engine then i dont see why it wouldnt be worth it.

If your ripping the engine out you could be incerting a shagger!

Take the engine out the car and your lovely history and looked after-ness counts for nowt bar the brakes

I do know what you mean, you just cant part with it but in terms of being cost effective it would be a lot less hassle just trading up.

Just with prices being rock bottom for the complete car on the second hand market.

Depends how much you love your car. I understand what you mean though deep down haha - cars are our b1tches

Given the prices of 172's at the moment, just go and get one. Cheaper than what you're considering.

If putting a 172 engine in a 1.2 would the coilvers need replaced or can the 1.2 coilovers still be used?

  Lionel Richie
^i'm using 1.2 hubs, driveshafts, wishbones, coilovers etc ie everything is 1.2, the only things that aren't is the engine, box and brakes (hispec 4 pots, custom brackets and 280mm 172 discs)

coilovers would be fine thats on your cars, just maby look into different springs for them.

like ive said before on msn andy, if you want a hand doing the conversion ill help.

its ok saying go buy a 172 and sell your car etc but to be honest ive got the real deal, an absolute mint 172 ive just spent over £4k over winter getting it 100% perfect, not a stone chip on it, feels brand new to drive, and now its too mint i dont want to track it and im building a dynamique hybrid next for track!
