Im in shock

I just phoned my insurance company who i wont name for obvious reasons.

Currently drive Almera 2.0 GTi looking for quote for my williams 2 that i should pick up this weekend (hurrah).

Give all the details bloke on the end of the phone says im sorry i cant insure you on that as blah blah blah, so i said why dont you call the underwritter and check cause im feeling a little insulted, i am 28 9 years no claims etc, comes back after sometime and say no as the car is to powerful for them to insure unless i am over 30 as that is what they do with other high performance cars such as porche etc.

Has anyone else come accross such drivvle as this ?

I have now got insurance sort of sorted but vvvvvvery annoyed to say the least.

Clare

when i was getting the 172 i had alot of companies who wouldnt quote at all (im 25) and a couple who said over 30 only on that car.

GTI Girl,

there are plenty of eary 20s female Williams drivers on here who have no probs with insurance....Im sure they will help you out

Louise is one of them, any one know who the others are??

Yeah its not unusual for brokers (especially) to refuse to cover people under 30 on cars that are Gropu 16+ ie 172,Willy that kinda stuff. Bestthing to do is ring the specialist and play them off each other, be sensible on the phone have a chit chat, if you come over as an enthusiast theyll be more willing to help.

i know its not a williams, but ive got a mate who had an import, scooby ( insurance group 18+) he was 23, 5 years no claims, living in ilford. Finding someone to insure the import was hard but they didnt mind insuring him with his age.

For some strange reason, confused.com wouldnt quote me on a Willy but quoted me on a 172! Hello? 12ks worth of more powerful car Vs 5k-ish and less power..?!?

Strange, very strange...

£1181.25 from Admiral was confuseds best quote for 24y/o, 5years NCB, 6 points in May 99. Still thought that was a bit steep!!

And somehow, Admiral quoted me £943.95 for a Toyota Supra Twin Turbo!

WTF?

Gti girl, spoke to the better half and he told me about the saturday trip, if you get up here in the afternoon I will meet up with you.

In case you are wondering who this is, i brought the exhaust! is that a good clue?

Its due to the rising costs of claims that Insurers are keeping away from powerful cars, if you try sites such as directlines for expensive or powerful cars they wont give you a quote online but tell you to call them, they seem to have increased the young driver thing from 25 -> 30 its because if say you were liable for a crash your Insurer could be faced with paying out for your car repairs, the third partys repairs, injury claims, solicitors costs, hire charges, loss of earnings and they also now get billed for any treatment you get from an nhs hospital, i reckon the average claim i settle for a rta is around £10k all in.

One thing to bear in mind also with insurance quotes such as 172 vs willy, Part of the quote is based on parts costs. therefore if they think you are likely to stuff it up at 90mph or so... Then replacement parst for a willy are quite possible to be more than 172 due to availability probs.

I usually call loads of insurance companies at renewal time and you get this response from one or two of them. They really dont know about cars - a Willie is only group 15 now I think. But some will still have it on group 17+

Try insuring a Fiesta RS1800 the Valver equivalent - slower than a Valver aswell (0-60 8.3). Its more expenisive than a Impreza Turbo with most insurance companies and if you ask them why you get "its a high power performance car" LOL Give me a break - 128bhp! The RS1800 seems to be about Group 18 aswell as the Escort RS2000!!

Yeah i had the same problem, tyring to get insurance was a joke!

I done the full back of Maxpower, Internet search and the yellow pages, most of them wouldnt quote me either. They all kept on saying as its a group 17 car, they wouldnt give me cover untill i was at least 25. But I am 21 with no no-claims. Cant blame u for being annoyed tho.

Give Tescos a try, they were the best for me by a mile!

My tip for getting a good price is to go through an insurance broker, forget all that cut out the middle man bullsh*te, i work for an insurer and go through a broker as they have schemes in place with insurers and can get good prices and also fight for you if insurer pisses you about in a claim, i recommend Arnold Clark brokers

Thank you all for your help the insurance company that said no was Pr****tial got a couple of quotes best being £450 fc so far.
