Induction Filters - are the cheap ones safe to use?

Just wonding if the cheap cone air filters off ebay are safe to use? Is there a good reason they are so much cheaper than say a K&N that looks exactly the same? Will my engine end up with a load of dirt in it due to the cheap filter?

not really, the more expensive ones you usualy get a spray which you spray your filter with to help cling onto dirt, and just overall built quality

when you get them in your hand you can appreciate why they're cheap. Some are ok, some are meh.

Why would you fit a naff induction kit when the gains by a so called reputable make are marginal?

The airflow of the cheaper induction kit may lose you power and it may not filter out as much so it's a lose lose situation. To add to that, it will look cheap in your engine bay so it's a lose lose lose situation in my book.

But each to their own.

You get what you pay for always go for a reputable make then you know you are getting a tested well made product, not something woven from the souls of Taiwanese sweat shop workers

Just bear in mind that if it does break up and enter your engine it could be the most expensive cheap thing you ever buy.

next time I see you I have a Powertec on mine from k tec. It sounds great, really happy with it and it doesnt break the bank. Will show you, or shifty has a k tec one which is even better.

I think when people choose inductions kits, unfortunately the last thing they actually consider is actually how well they filter air, and moreso how much carbon shield they have, how colourful they are or their power claims by manufacturers. I chose a JR filter purely as they were TUV approved, and filters down to 5 microns (from what they say), purely with engine longetivity in mind.

I could be pulled in by marketting gimic's, and in actual fact cheaper induction kits will filter equally aswell. I guess we just don't know these things unless someone independantly tests them.

Think i'm gonna take mine off tbh.

It's a cheapy twin cone air filter off eBay, noise was comical for a few days but can't notice a difference in power.
