Insurance on a V6 at 20 - 1793

Didn't think I could insure one until I was 21, just been playing with quotes and Admiral have come up trumps at a touch under 1800 quid.

Now, a V6 is like my realistic dream car at the minute, and if the insurance does come in at under 2k then I'm pretty sure I'll do it to be honest, but not a huge fan of loans, and I'd need to borrow 3-5k from the bank to ensure I got a mint one that I would be happy with.

Worth it?

You actually selling Cat? I think it's gotta be a ph2 for me though, although yours is nice! How much?

I could easily 'afford' it, I just sometimes have problems justifying so much money on cars, but then im only young once as Dave says!

Doing a nice excel spreadsheet at the minute!

look at it this way.

1800/365 = (roughly) 5

Therefore £5 a day insurance + Tax and fuel , Dont know how far you drive a day but guess you cud work it out.

I know i would like one, but i can not justify the cost :p

Well it would be around 4k for tax, insurance and fuel for a year for me, so not exactly cheap.
However I paid 1800 for the 182 insurance, and i think i would see above 20mpg from the V6, so half as much again to fuel over the 182.

If I was smart and waited another 6 months then i wouldnt need the loan to buy one, which would make major sense I guess.........but then I run the risk of renewing the 182 and the insurer deciding they hate me and charge me a fortune to swap over to a V6........

Personally I'd wait the 6 months and buy the car out right, unless you're in a job that's really secure. Speaking from my own personal experiences, taking loans out can to turn out to be a real nightmare.

That insurance quote is unreal (in a good way) you must live in a low risk area. I got a quote of 3k+ for a Vee and that was the best I could find.

  Trophy #490
GET ONE BOUGHT!

I 100% want one before I'm 21, insurance at the minute is around the £3000 mark with just 1NCB and 3 points on the licence for me, I'm 19. Even with this quote I'd be willing to pay it though, I don't look at it as £3000 as a chunk, I break it down monthly and then weekly as it makes it more pleasant to read so about £55-£60 a week which isn't a huge amount for a supercar really! ;)

I'm happy with what I have got, more than happy in fact, but everytime I see a photo of one I just want a Vee so badly. Such a special car. Xenons blazin' whatever the weather!

  Trophy #490
£3000 to insure though is only £60 a week tops, which when you look at it that way isn't much at all. I pay a lot for the Trophy now, so i'm used to the idea of spending a lot on insurance. I'll end up waiting a year or so, but if I was the OP, i'd jump at the chance at his quoted price!

Ali's isn't for sale is it?

If it was then chances are I would snap his hand off to be honest.

Admiral are great imo, customer service is spot on

if you can afford it i would do it, i was totally against loans etc but got a small bank loan for my golf and its so easy and not really that expensive

Looking at a 5k loan over 18 months, easily affordable, would make my outgoings a month to about 700 a month, leaving me over a grand left, which should see me being fine.

Tempting isn't the word, if the insurance actually ends up being that price, there will be a lot of picture whoring coming up in the summer.

Admiral have just quoted me 1k renewal on my 182, which means I guess there is no mega rush if I decide to hold off for a few months and save some more cash.

Although, will have a day to day van soon, so come may the 182 can go and I can survive without a car for a while until i find the perfect one for perfect monies.

pepsi, are you sure that's the correct quote, Admiral wouldn't insure me on a v6, they said that I had to be over 21 to be insured on this car?

Just double checked it dude, the only thing that is not 100% correct is I've brought my birthday forward so that I can get a quote for it today.

I'm thinking now that I'm gonna wait a bit longer.

Had a word with ym dad about it and said I'd be getting a loan, and he wasn't too pleased, I have no need to do it, just really want one.
So decided I'm gonna save up like mad for the next few months and set myself up for it.

In the mean time I'll get the 182 minty fresh for sale.

Having owned a vee I am quite well positioned to say that whilst they are great cars you really have to think about the practicalities / costs of owning one before parting with your hard earned cash.

IMO they really are best suited to 30+ year olds who can afford to run them as a weekend car. The cost of using them as a daily ride can be massive due to the bespoke parts. The 172 / 182 is such a good car though, it represents tremendous value for money and is certainly not half the car, even if the prices suggest it.

I was 26 when I got mine, tbh apart from the cambelt sevice etc, running costs aren't that bad at all imo. I only use it weekend & after work though.

  182 Trophy
lol at dads policy on his 197cup, with mum as named, 265quid, fully comp claims protected

I know what you mean, but running it won't be a problem. After mortgage, phone, gym, a loan if I did get one I would still have 1k left over each month.

They are aimed at whoever can afford one.

I have a van for work and back, going to the gym, general running around, so will just be an expensive toy.

If you can afford run it then why not get one IMO. Expeciaaly considering the car market is flooded atm. You could get some serious discount over the asking price.
