Insurance on clio 182

the numbers being given out by insurance companies stager me. i've just rang adrain flux and was quoted over £1600. based on a clio 182, 2005 plate, doing 5000 miles a year, no mods, kept on driveway over night.

i'm 29, held licence since 1995, have 3 points (no other beforehand), no no claims (company vehicle). this seems absurd to me?!? i then asked to see what it was like if you put 2 years no claims on, the answer, bugger all!

i was hoping for quotes of £700 max, obvioulsy i'm dreaming! anyone suggest anywhere else?

Im 30 and go through Privilege. They are best in my case but may not be in your case, depends upon your location.

I pay 320ish + Protection, hire car etc, comes in at £380ish I think with 12k miles/year.

I do have monster ncb though.

Flux are only good for modded cars. I only paid £500 fully comp on my punto GT in 2002, with 16"Wheels, Dump Valve, Highbrid, Chip, Full Spax suspension and Stainless/decat etc. they are pretty sh1t with standard cars.

hello.

no i've never had my own policy, i've been named on others and for the company (van), which is the only reason for the daft quotes i presume? but i didn't expect them to be so high, if i was 18 i could understand the price!

To be honest my mate inheritted my 1.3 Corolla last february (2006) and he hadn't had his own insurance prior.

It still cast him £500 to get insurance he was 29.

Its the first time insurance business. Best bet is to put your missus, your mum or dad on it as a named driver. It drops it alot.

Its less this year though (£350ish I think)

A 172/182 is a very powerful car for first insurance whatever your age...some insurance co's my take into account the company cars though, try Admiral or Direct line.

Dan

thanks dan.

privelege comes in the best at £665. direct line nearer £800. 2, 3 or 4 years no claims only knocked off around £15 per year in each case. i'll try the named driver trick.

Yeah, I put the missus on mine (24, no accidents blah blah) and it dropped mine.

Also put your insured on other cars, that also brings it down.

She used her dad, 55, no accidents....dropped hers by sh1t loads.

I was £850 for the 182 the last time i insured it back in november last year just before i turned 22 with one years NCB, my renewal this year on my new R27 should drop to under £800 as i'll have another years NCB and i'll be a year older.

Dont do the named driver trick mate!!

alan

adding a named driver only increases it. putting me as a named driver and my dad as the main brings the cost down to what i expected to pay alone, around £450. direct line gives named drivers no claims bonus the same as the policy holder, but then surely this goes into the arguement of who is the main driver etc, i'd like to know what direct line would say.

alan who are you with seems good to me?

i thought although i may be wrong that if you ask the company you work /worked for they can get the insurance company to provide proof of no claims if you never claimed on the company policy?

My 182 was £600 protected ncd that £85 in that price im 23 4 year ncd no points on the driveway and when i got my r27 last week there was no difference on my insurance

I'm 23, My insurance with Tesco will work out aqt around seven hundred and odd, in my own name. I've been driving for 3 years, 2 years no claims, 3 points on my lisence for a SP30. Thats for a 172.

now that annoys me, especially when they've emailed me today asking to accept their £1600 quote. i've got a man in the 'know' on the case, i'll let you know what happens. the insurance is now the only thing holding me back, next choice is a 1.0L 1977 Mark 1 Escort Auto, value £1 and falling.

I found that Adrain Flux was quite dear.
Im With Tesco, renewals up end of this month just got an online quote of 700 something.
Im 24 with 4 years pncb clean license and my postcode is meant to be classed as a rough area G21.

Try Greenlight, Tesco, Co-op, Elephant/Bell/Admiral, Asda, Norwich Union, Ensleigh, Churchill, Quinn etc. and see what they come up with.

If you use another vehicle make sure you "tick that box" as it knocks a fair bit off ;)

Flux where easily the cheapest for me @ 28 - £365 fully comp, but that was with full no claims discount.

moneysuperarket had none under £1000, the average was nearer £1500, this is getting daft.

esure wouldn't consider insuring me WTF?!?

virgin cost £788, it's the no claims that is killing me, not that i've ver made a claim, trying 3 years no claims takes it down to just over £400, maybe i'll just have to go with this one, it is the cheapest so far, thanks mr duck.

Thats a good price with no ncb! Glad I could help :approve:

  Clio 182
Elephant were cheapest for me at £268 followed by privilege @ £375, for an 05 182 with both cup packs, 10K per annum & only 2 years NCB, though I've a full NCB on my other car.

  Clio 182
I've got a quote for a 182 at 21, 3 years ncd for £761

172 was £666!

Both quote was with tescos. Havent actually bought a clio yet, will have either a 172 or 182 within the next 2 weeks :)
