Insurance pay out offer on a vee

  -
Mate wrote his v6 off a couple of weeks back and have finally made him an offer which I told him to contest.

Its a 53 reg, 19k miles, illiad blue, fsh, mint condition.

They have offered him £11.2k minus his excess which i think is £500.

Now to me i think this is quite low.

What do you think?

I would contest that, for one in similar condition, i think it was on an 04 plate was £15K. Never accept the first offer they make, just send them a few adds of similar mileage/age V6's to prove point.

using glass's guide:

if it's an 0353 retail is £12250

if it's an 0453 retail is £12900

assuming its in good condition of course

Do what james did for his 172, send in adverts for v6's in similar condition, mileage and age and work out the mean price

Insurance companies are very careful in their speech when they value your car- they make it very clear when they read the speech on valuationsbefore you agree to the policy- they offer you BOOK price-
A lot of people assume BOOK is equiv to retail which it isnt...

Taking away the excess the offer of 11.7k isnt THAT low, but on the low side, I would push for more- like everyone has said, although I think tops is 12.5k from the insurance Companies POV

Cheers guys i thought as much.

IVe told him to aim for £14k which is infact what he paid for it 18 months ago with 7k less miles on it! He took a gamble on an ebay auction and it paid off big time.

They have infact offered him 12k - £750 excess but obviously this is still low.

i'd be very careful what you say on a forum! ;)

if the claim were going through my company you would have just shot yourself in the foot! with a 50.cal no less! lmao

Lol they don't realise who actually works where it's rather funny.

Thanks for getting that value mate, couldn't be arsed today.

The adverts will help you out no end as the retail/trade value is still too low for you to replace your car for similar spec.

Lol i see what your saying but they know what he paid for it. But at the time was probably 2k cheaper than what it was worth.

yeh i'm only messing mate :D

to be fair what someone has paid for a car is irrelevant, someone might have got a cracking deal and will end up making money from the claim, however our client's don't seem to realise that this also works the other way, if you pay over the odds for a car...........tough! lol

i wrote off a lamborghini murcielago lp640 the other day :S

88k for a bodyshell........plus vat and a 5k delivery charge.......and it doesn't even come painted!! it goes up to 99k if you want it painting! roffle
