Insurance thread for young 1*2 owners

  RS Clio 172
Im getting scared now, mine is up next month paid 1,500 now i cant get a quote below 2k. Think i will be walking soon.

Same trouble I've had but I'm selling up for a change now anyway for something that will give me some money to play with.

Yer thats what im thinking looking for replacement cars just hard to find one that ticks all the boxes like the clio does.

  Clio 197 RB
I think im still classed as a young driver being 23, but not as young as some of you!

Looking to replace my R26 with a clio 182, so ive done a few insurance quote checks!
got the usual rubbish from go compare and compare the market, cheapest in the region of £2,500!
So i checked sites independently and managed to get a nice quote from Tesco at £1529, then it asked me to try the Value insurance, again it goes down to £1356, then after looking through this thread found that by adding a family member will reduce it again!
It did, I added my mum who has a clean licence, it dropped again to £1072! Im liking that alot!

But i though if i add my dad it should drop again! Wrong!! It went back up to £1345.???
Suppose Female Drivers are safer???

The search continues, would really like to break the £1000 really

Wow, insurance has gone up this year.

Mine is due and have been looking for quotes. Cheapest I have got is just over £1500 tpft or just under £1700 fc. Both through brentacre, with a 200bhp limit. Only paid £1300 last year when i was 19/1ncb :(

I dont understand how so many people are suffering! :S

I did a quote the other week (just before ordering the 200) and mine has gone down... And to insure the 200 is about £900, £300 less than what im paying for my 172. I even get a refund for swapping to a 200 (as in December when the 200 arrives, ill still have 3 months left on the policy).

Its wierd how everyones seems to be going up, but mine seems to be dropping. (Come March time, ill probably be complaining that insurance has gone right up lol, and my quotes are totally different lol)

I did a wee experimental quote and it came out cheaper that what I'm paying now. I'm hoping to dip under £400 come renewal.

I'm down to £1k now with flux. A new company they are working with apparently.

Thats TPFT again
Unlimited mileage, legal cover, personal cover, key cover as standard. Unlimited non-power increasing mods, power increasing mods looked at on an individual basis.

I know flux arent that highly regarded but its saving me £500 over the next best quote, be stupid not to snap their hand off!

Insurance seems to have gone up loads the last year. I paid £1300 tpft on my 172 last year. I haven't done another quote but they wanted £990 for a 1.8 Mazda 323 :/ tpft.

Just to continue...

Rang to buy this today, got through and was told the prices had changed and it has gone up £200. Now I specifically asked the first time if it was valid up until my renewal and was told yes, i'd have bought it there and then had it not been.

I argued for about 10 minutes and she insisted she could not do anything. So asked to speak to the supervisor (who was in a meeting, they always seem to be in meetings ;)). She came back and said I've had a chat with my supervisor, we can do the original price through a different company on the same identical terms. Went over the bits I was bothered about to check they were the same and bought it.

So, not the best start really with their cheeky manoeuvre to charge more money but its sorted now at least. Hopefully its the last I'll be speaking to them until renewal.

good work on that. presume your on 2yrs ncb now as well?

good price considering age.

Yep, 20/2ncb

It would be a fair bit cheaper if i waited until my 21st in December but I dont want to have to go carless until then.

  Clio 182
I have a 182FF

I am 22 I pay £915 Fully Comp with all the extras apart from breakdown

This is with Adrian Flux

I have 4ncb and no current points, did have a TS20 but that is gone (still declared)

This may seem cheap but I was paying £870 fully comp on a TT 225 when I was 21 and £785 on a 530d when I was 20

TPFT is madness dude.

Trust me, I know from experience. I'll never go anything other than FC again.

Its like life imo, the world runs on risk management. In this case I have decided to take th risk rather than the insurance company.

The way I see it is, it would cost me an extra £600 to go FC, plus the excess of £500 if I needed to use it, so £1100 extra for the year (presuming I had only 1 claim). £1100 would fix a fair bit of damage if you know where to go, and if it was written off I could still break a lot of it. If I make £2k breaking whats left, plus the £1100 I have saved, thats £3100 for my car. I only paid £3900 for it, so in reality, i haven't really lost out.

To me insurance is just a necessary evil, i'm paying for a green light on some cop cars anpr, if we didn't have such a claim culture and insurance was optional I wouldn't bother.

There is someone on here that tried to insure their 200 TPFT! Too high value though, ins company refused.

Even though Jenic's car is worth about 30p Dan?

Shut up you *insert non ban worthy insult here*

Tell them you only use it twice a year as the reset of the time it's broke - Should bring your premium well down?

I have just changed my insurance and it dropped around £500... (i started the policy in April it was circa £1450 F/C)

This was with Bell, i changed to Elephant after finding a quote of £935 (im 24 with no no claims discount)

Scotland seems to be not too bad for insurance if you are over 23, i wont ever pay anymore than £1000 for insurance ever again!

Ignore Babyface. When he reaches an age where he can drive, he'll have to deal with these things.

It is a risk, you're right.

But it wouldn't take much of a crash to write your car off. You'd get a cheque for the value less your excess. Whereas now, you'd have to find the money to fix it if the worst happened. Which can very quickly run into thousands.

But you pay your money and take your risk. Hopefully you'll never be in a situation where it matters.

Plus one on that, Danny. I paid £1400 at one point. Now I'm annoyed if it's over £500

Im 19 and have 4 years NCB. Learn to drive at 16 and than managed to get an extra years NCB by moving the car onto my parents Admiral mulitcar policy. Its still my policy and in my name but works out at £900 a year.

Exactly, I'll risk it again for another year and hope for the best. Hopefully I'll go FC next year, the only reason I wanted it this year was to make changing cars to something worth more easier.

Forgot to add in the other post, if I crashed rolling it for example, I'd lose my bonus and have a crash on file too with FC, this way I dont. And at my age a few years bonus and clean crash record is worth a fortune. Of course if the crash involved a thrid party that wouldn't count and I'd still be f**ked in future years.

Oh, and the company I work for inures all company cars and vans TPO! A few £million worth of new or nearly new vehicles. Guy at works got stolen the other day, our manager has to cover the cost (£26k) from our departments budget.

Ha! I was pretty stupid with regard to the initial policy if im honest, didnt really bother looking/comparing quotes!

TPFT in my opinion is daft on anything worth more than say £2000, is TPFT actually any cheaper? I remember seeing some quotes that were actually dearer TPFT than FC, insurance companies have you by the grapes every which way! :(

Holy cow, there's some expensive insurance prices on here! Am 26, paying £358 FC on a 182 with cup packs, with DOC, legal, protected no claims etc etc - and I thought that was a little expensive :) (having paid similar for my 300hp S14a 2 years ago with Flux..), have always enjoyed pretty cheap insurance due to v good area, never paid over £900. Can't believe how much young persons insurance has rissen, it's scary! :(

  SG9 Forester STi
Just got my renewal through and despite another years no claims it's gone up £50. £1600 :S I dread to think what my quote will be next year when the insurance for women rises :(.

My premium should go down (although im assuming thats partially because ive changed cars). Renewal is next month.

Paid £1150 last year.
Quotes for a single car policy (im on multicar so should be a bit cheaper) is just above the £900 mark. Hoping to try and get it for around £800.

Still dreading it. Shed load of money to blow!!

HAI :D

I'm in the £1K and under club now, never plan to leave

I just joined you in the club ;). It's nice in here.

Got my renewal letter today. Just over £800. Buzzing.

I love the fact that my 172 cost £1170 on insurance and my 200 is going to cost almost £400 less. Im definitely bi-winning today.

How bad is it that im buzzing that I have to fork out, what is still, a ridiculous amount of money to insure a Clio.

not trying to sound like a d*ck but i think some of you are lying about the prices your getting (the young drivers) some of you say your 19 or 20 with either 0 or 1 year ncb and your apparently getting quotes of 1100 or 1300.

I'm 21 with 3 years driving and 3 years ncb and 0 points, I've tried numerous amounts of companies with my mum as a named driver and I cant get anything cheaper than £2500 so how the hell are you lot getting these quotes?

You got me, I thought I'd come on a public forum full of people I dont know and lie about my insurance price.

Can I be forgiven?

Seriously though, have you tried the advice in this thread. Like calling the specialists rather than just doing online quotes?
