Intermitent Wobbles from the near side!

  Clio 172
First post here, just moved from an Elise to a Clio 172. Had it a few weeks and have had a few issues with it already and I thought it would be more reliable than a lotus :S

The current issue is intermittent and only appears to happen after heavy breaking or under hard accelaration.

The symptoms are that it feels like the nearside front wheel is wobbling (only under acceleration), it first started happening on the M5 on Saturday and appeared to disapear after 1 minutes, but then it reappeared once I had got home. All very bizarre.

I took the front wheel off this morning to have a look, but there doesn't appear to be anything obviously wrong with it. No movement in ball joint, CV boots have recently been replaced and there was a tiny little movement on the drive shaft, but nothing that I wouldn't expect.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

cheers
Nick

LoL!

Anyway, I was going to suggest CV boots/driveshafts but if you've just done them then could it be wheel balancing? but I would have thought that would have been continuous or at least on and off the accelerator at certain speeds.

Are your tyres definitely round? get it on stands and start it and let the wheels rotate like they do when left in neutral and then you can kneel down and make sure that the tyres aren't out of shape.

Could it be engine wobble under acceleration? Are the mounts in good shape?

I had a whopper of a service done on it about 4 weeks ago (unsuprisingly renault dealers hadn't bothered to change the spark plugs in 2 B services), which is where the CV boot was changed.

It is definately not tyres, I had the fronts replaced 4 weeks ago and I've not done anything to them since they were fitted.

It may well be the engine mounts then, I'll pop my head under there with a torch later on. Although I'm not quite sure why it would be intermitent. Hmmmmmmmm.

Have very similar problem in my Clio, feels like you have a puncture etc.

Have checked all as you have done Nick but can't find anything.

Seems to only happen on dual carragways or straight relatively smooth roads.

Happens for less than 1min and very intermittent for around 6 months now (happend about 1/2 dozen times)

:S :S :S

To rule the wheel/tyre out totally try swapping it with a rear and go for a drive.
