Played with one of these yesterday, what a load of shite.

I actually felt sorry for the people who bought the gen1, the second is bound to get the Retina display, and the larger RAM of the new iP4. But seriously, how awkward is the thing, you can't type with both thumbs, period, plus holding it in both hands, you can't easily press the Safari address bar without repositioning your hands, or removing one entirely.

The speakers as well, shite. Why do they only output on one side? chances are you'll be using it landscape, why not a speaker on the top and the bottom?

fair enough on the ergonomic points. each to their own.

if you spend your life worrying about what will come out next, then you you'd never buy anything at all. you just need accept that technology moves and adapt.

For what I use it. I have found the iPad pretty much perfect. Some sites are a bit iffy. But other than that it does the job nicely for me.

I do agree you do really need a MAC, PC as well. I do not think I could own an iPad without one of the above.

Since I've had my iPad, I havent touched my laptop... It's great for surfing!!
The only reason I'll be going on th laptop now is to update/sync my iPad lol.
I love it!

I've reserved a 16gb ipad and am supposed to pick it up tomorrow. I know I don't need the 3G but not sure if I should go for the 32gb?

How many songs/pictures etc would I have to put on it to use the 16gb?

I know the 32gb isn't much more to buy but I'm not sure I'm going to need it.

Any help before tomorrow would be great!

FLOL, you are a tool sometimes.

you were holding it wrong and trying to type wrong.

if not on a table (if you were with the case its slanted and you type as you would on a normal keyboard) the you hold it in your left hand and type with your right finger, its not difficult and i am pretty damn fast.

most of the time i hold it in landscape, but i also rarely use the speaker, i use it for office apps, email, web browsing, why would i want an amazing speaker system?

if i'm on a train or plane watching a vid i'll be using headphones anyway!!!

WOn't get retina as mentioed above, the screen is absolutely fine though, i am playing digital copies off of dvd's and the quality is great.

you picked it up (and tried to use it wrongly) for a few mins, had already made up your mind about it before you even saw it, simple.

mines been used constantly since i got it, for personal and business, its rarely out of my hand during the day, i can't fault it!

Right, so I picked it up with both hands (silly me) and tried to type as I would on an iPhone, or laptop... what I should have been doing was balancing it one hand whilst typing with a single digit on my other hand? Cracking device this!

The device is bigger than my iPhone and not hugely smaller (height wise) than my netbook, yet the speaker is mono and no better than my phone? Great stuff! Nobody said "amazing speaker" I just meant something on par with a laptop that doesn't sound like a fart at any sign of bass.

Your use case is the only use case, of course... therefore why on earth would anybody want to listen to music via the loudspeaker, or use it any differently than you? Fact is, if you hold it landscape, you hold it with both hands, if you hold it with both hands I want to type with both hands, I can't. Do I have badly designed hands, or is the 2" bezel the problem here?

I guarantee I could perform any task quicker on my iPhone than you on your iFad, and that's the problem, it's a fashion accessory.

It will get the retina screen, and it will get additional RAM along with a camera, USB and everything else it lacks, one thing it will never have is a purpose (outside of car mounting, which is awesome).

Tell me DK how many times have you shot your load over the screen watching LOTR?

Whether an iPad will work for you is entirely down to what you want it for, what you will use it for and what your expectations are.

Is the iPad a replacement of a laptop? In my personal opinion no it is not, however, you can make it work if you want it to... but again depends on the issues outlined above.

I use my iPad as my daily computer, i use Numbers etc.. to do my spreadsheets and calculate my data. I have an external hard drive that i simply transfer files from via my Macbook if i need them. For me it suits its purpose superbly. Its light, its easy to carry, no crazy weight or bulky packaging required to transport it about. It is intuitive to use when browsing and when coupled with a bluetooth keyboard it is simple to use for prolonged periods and when writing reviews, reports etc...

I still use my Macbook and it hasn't replaced my Vaio 100%, however, it has made browsing and email much more intuitive and easier to use, the screen lock is great if you just want to browse while laying down or just kicking back. I find its memory (i have the 16gb version) to be fine for what i need, a few movies for the kids, songs for me and space left over for photo's and apps etc..

The whole flash thing is a bummer at times when trying to use things that require it to upload documents, but there are ways around it. I bought a great tri-pod from ebay what not only looks good but is portable and cheap.

I will take some pictures and post them later, however, with the bluetooth keyboard it really makes it a very serious piece of kit.

I also have the genuine Apple carry case, its ok but nothing too impressive. Its covered with a clear protect cover front and back while in the case to stop those dust scratches that appear. The battery life is great from my experience, it lasts a long time and seems to last forever on standby! Watching movies on it is good too, better than a poratable DVD player but not as big as a laptop. This for me is where it comes into its own... Living in the US means lots of travelling with the kids, all i do is download a few movies and tv shows and the battery last for a long long time. Keeps the kids occupied without having to worry about power cords etc...

All in all its a great machine if you view for what it is, and that in my opinion is as a 'light laptop' or in addition to your everyday work machine.

Laptop? You'd pick it up, hand either side and type with your thumbs?

And there's no way you'd be able to type like an iPhone, it's a bigger form factor. Either stick it on a surface and use both hands or hold it in one hand and use all your fingers on the other hand, I really don't see how this is possibly even an issue.

Laptops have the space to put speakers with biggish coils on them, there's very little space inside the iPad to have such luxuries.

Lol, the hoof is just a troll, I did lol @ him saying he would hold a laptop in two hands and type with his thumbs like an iPhone.......

You'd be amazed at how fast the iPad is, especially for typing, it's mega fast with the big keyboard and autocorrection.

How long does the battery last on your netbook/iPhone though? Probably no where near as long as the iPads.
Comparing laptop speakers with the iPad speaker is a pretty useless thing to do. They are both going to be s**t. As a user of an iPad I can count on 1 hand the amount of times I have actually used the speaker for anything.

Also I do wish people wouldn't compare it to the iPhone. It really is pointless.

Think about the bezel for a while. Imagine using it without one? It would be impossible.

Its a love or hate product. I'd say around 95% of owners who actually have the product and know what its like to use on an everyday basis will tell you that it really is an impressive piece of kit that has replaced their laptop/netbook for web browsing round the house. It certainly has for me.

Il be honest, i got my iPad to play games on whilst at work etc. And browse web now and then. A lot of people piss £400 up a wall in 5-6 weeks in town. I dont, so to me its money well spent. :)

My mum is after an ipad but being swedish she watches a lot of swedish tv over the net (not p**n lol)

I was hoping someone might be able to confirm whether its possible to watch any videos found on the following site:

I think they're all flash :(

If this is the case is there anyway around the problem?
