I pre-ordered on the first day it was available to do so, maybe that was the 15th? Anyway, it was mid-afternoon when I finally got around to entering my digits, and my ETA is also October, 3rd - 8th.

when you do a backup now it automatically excludes contacts though as it says they are being backed up from iCloud, so not sure whether by then turning on iCloud they magically appear, but they won't necessarily be in the iTunes backup.
