is it the wrong time of year to sell cars



  none :(
had my car up for 4 weeks now and not even a sniff.

imo its not overpriced (£6.5k) - ff 182 rb

looking at other forums etc and people seem to sell theirs no problem, they are asking more than me, what am i doing wrong.

might raffle it off lol - £100 per ticket for your chance to win a 182

the tax going up to 250 next year is putting alot of people off as well.

my parents looked at clio sports but decided against it due to fuel costs and taxing.

i still want one though :(

Im in the same boat mate,had the ST up for a couple weeks now on PH and AT,not had a phonecall from either and its priced cheapish as well.Im thinking of Fleabay as my mate had his ST220 Mondeo on PH and AT,heard nothing,stuck it on Ebay and it was sold 2 days later for cash.

Just put your starting bid about £100 short of what you want for the car.He wanted £10,000 iirc for his ST220 and stuck it on with starting bid of £9950,guy contacted him and asked for a buy it now price and he sold it to him.

In fairness unless your doing 40,000 miles a year then a diesel isnt for everyone...

Diesel is 1.18-1.30 a litre as petrol is 1.07-1.15

Not really all that necesary to have a really economical car unless your doing lots and lots of miles or hardly any atall...

Dervs are always cheaper on runnig costs, its simple maths however when you factor in that dervs are more expensive than the equivalent petrol, so if you low miles than a derv is false economy. i think the break even is 12k or somethign like that, where if you do more than that the saving ins running costs out weight the difference in purchase price.

so for example, i'm looking at anew car, the petrol is £12k, the derv is £13.800, however the running cost sof the derv for my millage is £700 cheaper a year so after 2 and a bit years i'm saving money, since i planning on keeping it for 4-5 years, a derv is the choise, but if i was only wanting it for 2 year a petrol would be cheaper, but a derv has higher residuals so i'd still get the derv lol. but if the government changed it smond about the tax brackets like the spies are suggesting this may change.

but at the minute if you are trying to sell a 2.0l sports car, with £250+ tax, and group 16 insurance the seller is at a disadvantage, for that kind of car its very much a buyers market.
 
I got rid of my 2.5i Z4 pretty soon afer getting it purely down to running costs.

I now run a 56plate 1.5 dci megane, finance free, and its superb, £35 a yr to tax coming down to £30 soon, and nearly 60MPG.

I used to have renault sports etc, but I just thought to myself this is getting silly with the shear cost of running the things, that a car now just gets me from A to B as cheaply as possible!!!

You think you have problems selling your car, try selling a house at the moment!! ;)
 
Credit crunch. Loans are more expensive to take out and not everyone has 6 grand sat in a savings account.

Id say its a good time normally. Summers coming and nobody is thinking about Christmas.

However, what Trev says is very true and with the price of petrol/tax its not helping.
 
The flip side of the tax and petrol argument is its encouraging some people (read ME) to do it while they can still afford to!

Yep, could be the mileage. Mine is similar to yours and I've just sold it, but it's only on 23k. Also the tax might put people off - they'll only have it for a month then have to pay at least £115 for new tax.

Your ad is pretty good but you don't mention whether the alloys are perfect, that's a good selling point - or how much tread there is left on the tyres.

Not sure whether people would want the induction kit either and the parking dings would put me off.

Anyway, FF 182s in racing blue are quite sought after as most of the 182s for sale are silver, black or arctic blue, and most of the RBs are cups.

I actually think it's the best time of year to sell as no-one's saving for Christmas or is skint after it!

That would've been the case in years gone by.... but inflation has risen an awful lot this past year... I'm skint all the time - well I have nowhere as near as much disposable income as what I had this time last year and I am sure I speak for a lot of people that use this forum.

the high price of diesel means that petrol engined cars are now more cost efficient...

p.s. high fuel prices are here to stay...8 years is what ive heard...
 
Yes i understand what I wrote, I can also state that as I have had the petrol equivalent.

Petrol averaged 30mpg
Diesel averages 45mpg

Thats 50% more. Now if we take into consideration the cost of the fuels. Petrol is approx 111p/litre, Diesel Approx 122p/litre now my maths makes that less than 10% more, which means the increased fuel efficiency far outweighs the increased cost.

I really struggled to even get any kind of interest on my 182 back in January, had it on pistonheads/autotrader for a few weeks and didn't even get a phone call :(

I bit the bullet and traded it in the end, hoping that the car I bought, R32, would hold its value more!

Thats b****cks tbh. My diesel is 50% more fuel effiecient then the equivalent petrol doing similar journeys

i have a diesel company car...the days of diesel cars being more economical than petrol cars are in the past...

A spokesman from AutoWeek only recently said that diesels are holding their second hand value better than equivalent petrol engines, and advised people to buy a diesel instead.

The lastest diesels like the 1.3 in my folks Suzuki will do 530 miles to £35, that's over 15 miles for a quid, there is no way I'd get that mileage out of our Ford with it's 1.3 petrol engine for £35 worth of petrol, more like 340 miles on a good week.

I'm no fan of the clacky oil burners but it's impossible not to see the saving on what the vehicle is using, forget what you pay at the pump, diesel would have to be nearly £2 for it to be uneconomical, more on some diesels..

I don't think it matters what his calculations are dude, if you are trying to say diesel is more of a rip off at the pump than it should be, tell us something we dont know! the fact of the matter is that regardless of the extra 11p they are still more efficient, your flogging a dead horse trying to convince people otherwise.

oh i get it now, you are one of these people who will tell the person prooving there point that they are wrong, yet wont asctually give any hard evidence as to why?
