is it worth paying so much insurance for a 172?

  Motorbikes
been looking into getting a 172 when/if i get a new job (interview on thursday) so been scounting around insurance companies to see whats what. elephant.co.uk have qouted me £2690.05 for a standard Mk2 Ph2 172 with an IAM certificate, 1 years ncb and one write-off claim from last year. is there anywhere else cheaper? and is it really worth paying so much to have a 172?

i wouldnt pay that much on insurance.. correction i couldnt pay that much on insurance!!! i would get a cheaper car build up my ncd and then get the car..

good luck with the job interview hope it pays well for you too

Personally its one of the reason I've not got a 172/182 costs are very high particulaly if like me you do a load of miles.

Paying over £1k for insurance seems a waste IMO its £3 a day for what insurance nothing else there are other things to spend your money on.

i'm just waiting to get a qoute from adrian flux, as they've always been the cheapest for me. still expecting over 2k though

Try Greenlight, that's if your 21 years old or older?

I wouldn't pay 2.7k for insurance on a 172.

  Motorbikes
well i'm only 20, still paying 900 for a 1.2!! admiral i've found to be more expensive than elephant

Age doesn't seem to make a huge differene it does depend on other factors all this about huge drops at 20/21/22 etc I've yet to see.

Steven no way is it worth it!!! get a 205gti for £1500 and insure TP F & T then sell it for same as u paid for it or more and get a mk1 172 when you hit 21 or 22 when its more reasonable.

I've never paid more than £800 for insurance.

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
I have a 2001 172 Clio.. i'm 24 and my insurance is £475 fully comp.. i would shop around if i was you..

When I had my 182 (from new), I was 21, 1 year ncb paying £1400 FC.

A year later 22, 2 years ncb £997 FC. Cheapest I could find.

It all comes down to how much you want it? I personally could not bring myself to paying that much on insurance. But then you're not me.

  cock mobile.
I paid £1400 for the first year on my Cup, but I just wanted it so much that I had to have it no matter what.

Since then I have told myself that anything over 1k on insurance is not allowed, as it's just money completely wasted, you never see it back again!

  Turbos.
Get a 106 Rallye or something similar to that. I paid 3k to insure my 1.216v when i was 17! I've never not paid under a grand and it's starting to annoy me...

I am a newbee and just got a 172 at the weekend, I insured it through MoreTh>N and it costs me £305 fully comp including breakdown and recovery. It's a bargain init !!! :) :) :)

The Renault 5 GTT on a J plate cost me £286 TTP That was Highway insurance via Performance Direct

I have just paid £702 for my 172, im 23, have 4 years ncb, this was thru admirals multi car quote, the other car is a 106 quiksilver for our lass and that is 340 for the year. i think that this is really good.

my renewal from admiral was for 790 which i phoned them and they got it down to 760, so it was cheaper to get the multi car quote. means the bill will be due the same time aswell.

^^ i have a write off next to my name!

i'm a happy chappy now, got an email fromadrian flux quoting me only £1600 FC. big difference from £2600

  172 Cup
no way i would pay over a grand for insurance on anything now. 1600 is a good price compaired to what you have been quoted! get one mate! you will not regret it!

  Bye Bye 182....
simple answer is no. Get a lower priced car ride it for a few years for the ncb and then have your dream car unless you have loads of money and then I say why the hell not! LOL

  172 ph1
If you haven't modded your motor try directline.

They quoted me £560 fully comp with legal protection £540 without. That was with 10% discount online thought for having someone else on a directline policy.

I'm only 21 but have 3 years no claims.

Good luck anyway mate and I'd try using internet sites as you get the occasional one that will have a glitch and offer a much lower price than they would over the phone.

  RenaultSport clio 182
i have a cliosport 182 just paid again mine was £564 fully comp couldnt find it any cheaper has anyone else had any problems with there 182
