Is my computer secure?

Whenever i'm connected, this little Wireless Network Connection icon pops up and allows me to see what are presumably my neighbours' connections.

I can see about 12, most are labelled as secured but a few aren't. Is mine secure by default or do i have to take sort of action...?

You'll have to set it to have encryption, either WPA (preferably) or WEP, it's almost certainly not on by default.

google is your friend mines unsecured too, when i try to enable encryption my pc card on the laptop is fine but the usb wireless stick goes dead and wont even find the network so any bugger could be downloading for free courtesy of me
