Is this legal?

Just got my number plates through from fancy plates.

The front one I went for 3/4 size. It is really small, kind of underestimated it before I purchased them.

Rear one is standard size. Front measures 390mm by 84mm.

I was expecting it to be the same length as standard (520mm) but just shorted in height. Didn't really pay much attention whilst making them up.

The front plate on the 172 at the moment is the normal length, but shorter.

  Turbos.
Technically illegal i believe, but i've gotten away with it with numerous cars. If you ever got in trouble about it, you'd be incredibly unlucky; it's still perfectly legible.

The rear one you've got is illegal too technically.

Guessing they have been sold to you as show plates.

Thought that was my plate then for a second :s (the one on the car) only the last letter's different and it's the same size number plate lol

Yeah just spoke to fancy plates. Anything other than 520mm x 110mm is illegal! Damn! Just ordered a 520mm x 84mm lol.

I've been pulled over twice since owning the clio. Must be the noise it makes. And they've never mentioned anything about front being illegal. But it is t really worth the potential points no.

Will ring them back and change the order. Going to look GASH with a huge front plate on IMO.

That is a proper 3/4 plate not what everyone on here refers to as 3/4.

Chris' FPM used to rock one.

Both illegal as they now need a postcode on them as well as a BSAU mark on the bottom right

Ive had a smaller front plate on my 172 for nearly two years. never had any trouble with it.

  PH2 Flamer
Ive had all my plates made up online (for private reg) an they've never had a post code. But tbh I didn't no it was needed by law on cars after 2001. But now I do I'm not gunna go breaking it.

djhplates on eBay sells a number of small plates with kite mark and post codes. Very good prices too.

Have used now a number of times and always really good quality, no back peeling etc

What's wrong with the slightly thinner front plate size you had already? Looks spot on imo

The smaller 3/4 plates look cool in McDonald's carpark.

When I looked into it you can trim down a legal sized and correctly lettered plate to fit the bumper recess so it's a similar size to that pictured on the car

Illegal but I've had mine on a year and had no issues. You roll the dice and take your chance I suppose.

Ive had two £60 fines for my front plate, (same as the one pictured on the red 172) I still refuse to take it off. Looks a million times better than standard size!

Nothing is wrong with it, I'm just on process of putting my own reg on.

3/4 plate is miniature, no idea why they sell them. Shows maybe.

I have ordered a 520mm x 84mm do be exactly the same size as I already have fitted (in pic).

I was going to re-order and get standard, but it looks too good being that size. Look even better with only 5 digits.

I had a 3/4 on my old car, got pulled once and changed it over there and then with the other in the boot. On my current car, i have the slightly larger than 3/4 plate. Still looks good but doesn't look as small as a 3/4 one everyone has. Fingers cross so far i have been alright in 7 months, but knowing me when i post stuff on here about things not happening it happens haha!

from my view why risk it in the first place ? its unwanted attention you can live without! just stick a standard on there and you can live a quiet life !

don't want to jinx myself now but i have never had any trouble with mine or through mots i have a yozza so not like im stealth but maybe it is how others drive or hang around certain places and then get recognized by the old bill i don't no.

because they do look so much better than the standard plate hanging over the front grill!!

i had mine on for a year, never got pulled over for it, but did have it mentioned a few times. no fines.

my mate got a fine for his plate thought

I've never once looked at a car and thought: "You know what, that number plate looks f**king cool!"

Small chopped up plates just look pikey.

And just lol @ the guy who's paid £120 in fines for a cool plate.
