ITB’s gains



  TRACK CAR BREAKING
Evening all. I know it’s abit if a vague question and lots of contributing factors.

But what have people achieved power wise on a stock 182 motor. With Itbs /decat exhaust.

Been speaking to a few people who are selling kits. And one person is saying their car made under 200bhp and the other is saying his made 215bhp. Only difference is the mappers and ecu. (199) Gen90 pro and a me221 (215)

If you have Itbs on your car. Please could you tell me your results please.

200bhp on stock cams is about right. Any higher you’ll need cams.

I made 199bhp on my Ph1 172 with the KTec ITB kit. That was standard internals but Megane 225 injectors and a 4 bar fuel pressure regulator.

Catcams will be happening at the next cam belt change. Told to go for Catcam 423 if I can put up with a lumpy idle.
 
  Clio 182
Mine made 195 bhp on Jenvey ITB's with Gen90 ecu on a well worn (130k) engine.Now making 220bhp with rebuilt engine, cams and light head work. Mapped at EFI so genuine figures. Seems some rolling roads register 10bhp+ before you even start the engine.
 
  172 Ph1
Stock engine with with 438 cams and DTH Ktec ITB’s made 197 bhp and 152lb/ft

Then with the cams retimed to 421 position the torque was so much higher , it made 197.2bhp and 172ft/lb torque.

I've had two or three ITB engine builds. Oh, how I've wasted money. Sounded great though. The end result was it meant the Clio was slightly less slow! :ROFLMAO:

First ITB build, K-Tec DTH Jenvey setup - made a genuine 200bhp. Last ITB build was fully forged setup, Schrick cams, Jenveys, Arrow conrods, the works. Made 220-odd bhp but torque wasn't great around mid 160's. Enjoyed it for a few weeks until it failed.

Honestly? I wouldn't bother on a tired and already stressed F4R engine unless you are planning on doing a bit of other work around the ITBs to refresh bits and pieces.

About 10 or so years ago I had ktec DTH ITB’s /gen 90 fitted with a bottom end refresh and went from 169 bhp to 202 bhp 172ftlb of toque. Engine was bulletproof!
Then a couple of years ago I had some Schrick cams fitted while having cam belt done and agained around 15 bhp. Has made the engine even more eager.

The ITB’s and engine has been absolutely faultless apart from an injector.

He's not wrong tho. Look at the kind of money and effort people put in, just to get the engine making just over 200bhp.
Meanwhile the Civic's K20A makes that without breaking a sweat.

The F4R just isn't a big performer. At least it's relatively reliable.

Obviously everyone will have a different view on what represents "good value" but, if you're that conscious of a type when it comes to money, modifying cars probably isn't the hobby for you. We do this stuff because we want to do it, not because it makes good financial sense.

I made 212bhp and 159lbft but from lower down with just 197 cams and injectors, 182 exhaust manifold and original spec RS2 inlet manifold. Total cost was under 2 grand with mapping etc
