ITG panel filter - more fuel efficient than standard filter?

It's got me thinking this. I've made no change to where (or how) I drive in the past month, but I changed the ITG filter back to a virtually new filter the other week.

Typical MPG now has dropped from a midge's under 35 to 33.4. Tiny numbers in their own right, but I fill up once and week and it would probably add up to a fair amount over the course of a year.

I might change it back and see if that figure creeps back up. It may just end up being the weather, but I thought colder air would improve MPGs, if anything?

Anyone else as anal with their fuel consumption? ;)

What I'm getting at is the more air goes in the more fuel can be burnt. Therefore less mpg.

So perhaps a more efficient air filter would do that (?)

Yeah but more air that can get in means more fuel could be burnt which equals more power.

So the ECU would say send less air and fuel needed so should make no difference,

Mine went down slightly when I changed mine, but its back up as normal now. Why would you want to change it back to standard?

By fitting a standard paper element, you will have increased the 'pumping losses', ie the amount of energy required to suck air through it. The extra energy comes right out of your fuel tank. I doubt it would make much difference in normal daily driving though, more likely to be the cold snap.

It shouldnt make hardly any differance. The change in mpg is probably due to the weather getting colder...it takes longer for the engine to warm up etc.
