It'll polish out... (write off opinions)

  BMW 330D
Ouch!
Not as bad as i was expecting, but still looks pretty bad.
As long as its only cosmetic parts i would hope that it wont get written off, but if any other parts needs replacing it'll be a write off imo. :dapprove:

Looks nearly identical to mine bud, but my wheel was only kerbed, so no mech damage. Took em a week to fix. My arch was putting pressure on tyre, but not enough to damage. DO NOT LET THEM TAKE IT TO THEIR REC REPAIRER:nono: , PM me for details, I'm with Elephant (part of Admiral).

i noticed that, but because the tyres flat its awkward to tell if its really damaged or not

I'll repair it for you mate. You can buy non-genuine panels for them which are cheaper and are near enough identical fitting. I've got a spare wing at work somewhere I think with a very slight crack in that I could repair...

Just depends, i'd obviously do it on the cheap for you but it would have to be at your house/garage as I can't really take the car into work with me.

  Chocolate Bar™
well im in stoke-on-trent, so depends how far away you are.

if you can do the actual repair then i can get my local place to spray it up :)

pm me whatever you think it may cost / where your based

To work out the price i'd have to see the car and see the full damage. We'd also have to ring around for the parts and contact Neil at Cliospares. Find out about your insurance first and whether they will allow you to buy it back and what not. Find out exactly what you wanna do with it? i.e - keep it and run it on the road or keep it, repair it as cheap as possible and use as a track car? scrap it, sell it, break it etc?

But surely you'd have until your current policy is up, until your renewal goes up to £2k - that's an obscene amount??? How much was your current policy?? I take it you're fairly young?

if its written off, which it will be, i wont have insurance as its cancelled in order to pay me out, which is the whole point hence i've gotta reinsure it

Ah I see.... bloody insurance! Hope you get things sorted one way or the other and CHEAPLY.

easier to track the clio as not planning on spending vast sums of money on insurance as my insurance is just over 2k for my normal policy due to this crash. so idea would be to work on it over winter, and then insure it just for summer on a lesser mileage policy which is more affordable.

will take me ages to save up enough to get it repaired anyway

How does that work??? How come they cancel the policy? When i had my theft claim they didnt cancel my policy...

gutted mate.

looks write off material to me. positive camber on that front wheel and the fact that the door won't open is worrying, since the wings are only plastic and shouldn't stop the door on their own. plus, there's the horror of them quoting from the renault parts bin. major dollar for that bumper and light for a kick off. :(

  Chocolate Bar™
chis- I've already contacted a few people for parts so that shouldnt be a problem, i'll know whats happening with the car on thursday so will pm you asap

ad- maybe thats because it was a theft? did they give you a refund on the money on your insurance or transfer it to a new car? mines 1200 quids worth so hopefully they may give me some sort of rebate

  A well built VW
I'm no expert but id be surpirsed if it didnt get written off due to its age and cost to repair even if Renault parts have come down in price

They wont cancel your insurance

If you are paying installments, they will deduct the cost of the installments from the payout of your vehicle, but you will still have cover till the end of your policy thats what we do anyways

i would put that back on the road, no probs even if you need a front subframe (which i doubt) its still worth it
at best bonnet, grille, bumper, wing, headlamp unit, foglamp, maybe rads, inner wing (you can get them complete) & whatevers broke under bonnet.
i would'nt have been in such a rush to tell the insurance company especially if it was damage only
still glad you did'nt buy mine tho ;)

As people have said from the outside it doesnt look that bad but also on the other hand if the chasis is bent then your possibly looking at a write off....depends on the extent of the internal damage and how bent the structure is!! My cousin hit the kerb at 10mph in his valver and the chasis was bent to fcuk...unbelievable!!

On the other hand middo if you need any non-genuine panels then drop me a PM.... my dads mate did my front end (bumper) with non genuine panels (including spraying) for £120 so i might be able to help you out!!

lmao, get in line ;)

benji - I would have not claimed especially as its put my insurance up by a grand, but i hit and damaged a sign and pavement, so that wuold have cost me over a grand, plus the car had to be stored in a police compound, and thus i'd need to pay the fees for that.

kiza - i may well be getting in touch with you, any help is greatly appreciated!

Racingblue182 - I'm with admiral and she stated on the phone that the insurance would be cancelled, how would i stand on this, can i argue it? i've only had the car insured for 2 weeks at 1200 so it would be worth pushing for

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
i wasnt going to claim on my insurance but yes signs and lampost are very expensive

iirc they cant cance insurance untill the renawal date

My understanding is that insurance still runs the entire year, as you've paid for that entire year. If you were to pay by monthly installments, then you would still have to pay the installments for the remainder of the insurance year, to fund their payout effectively. If that's the case then you can just change your car details to whatever you get as a runabout...

I'd be very surprised if they just cancelled it after 2 months, if you've already paid for a full year's insurance, I'm sure a call to the insurance equivalent of "OFCOM" would solve that problem.

i too am with admiral and after reading your posts i decided to have a look at my paperwork. basically you're right, their guide to insurance notes says that in the event of a total loss your insurance is terminated with almost immediate effect and any courtesy car they supply to you is also collected. any ncd earned is also lost since the start of the policy

tbh i've never really read the t's and c's of my previous policies so can't comment on whether this is just admiral or something done by all companies?

^ *sobs* Russ, a taxi driver pulled out on me and i had to ditch it in a post :( theres a thread somewhere about it.

shame about insurance, i thought i wouldnt get anything back but hey ho. Got a quote off cliospares of around the 2k mark to fix it fully, sprayed if i supple the carbon bonnet so not bad really. Hopefully the scrap value will be low (as second hand parts are hard to come by for them) and i'll be able to buy it back for about a grand :)

I had a flash back the other day (i know it sounds corny) that it was a toyota carina and was from z cars, so keep your eye out. Think it was silver, although CCTV thought it was dark red (it was in black and white) due to the shade of grey. Apparently also had a squiggly number plate, hence why it couldnt be read.

bloody hell mr pc moderator...mind ur own! lol :p

lol typical mate, i never trust them "infamous" stoke taxi drivers, could guarantee if you argued with one over fault in a crash 20 other "infamous" stoke taxi drivers would show and claim you were at fault

just seen your post, i took my car into a local bodyshop today and there was a black 182 the whole of the front was missing, wheel was hanging off etc and it wasnt a write off ill see if i can get some pictures

interesting! thing is thats probw orth about 5 grand more than my car which is probabaly the reason it isnt a write off. Ah well guess i'll just have to wait and see :(

Middo, I'd give the insurance regulators a call (whatever they're called) about that cancellation mate. I'm with Admiral as well and to be fair, I've never checked the small print regarding claims, but that sounds off. Let us know how you get on...

As for the 182, yeah I'd assume i's because the cost of the work is justified to keep a car of significantly more value on the road.

  1.6 focus zetec....
No porblem middo...ill help where ever possible...will deliver the panels and even give you a hand with some work if you like....working on my cousins valver and 19 at the moment which is fun (wre not fixing the 19 though were killing it lol)...

well go and sit it out outside their offices. you'll bound to see him at some point (try aviod the urge to kick the living s**t out of him), then goto the rozzers and tell them that you remember the plate, surely they can go and check it out then and most probs the guy will crack if questioned..

worth a try?
