I've been working at night shots.

Car  Fiesta ST-3
Right I posted a picture of the cup back in her standardish form that I took at night. At the time I took a lot of very constructive and needed criticism and here is the shot.

Now I have a new DSLR this is the new shot, but please appreciate the weather, and light are completely different in both pictures.

Not 100% there but I am trying.

C+C welcome.

Pretty good photo, I like it!

Would be better with some light to the rear end of the car so you can see the back wheel more clearly :)

The simplest lightsource is some sort of white torch, usually LED. Use a long exposure, like 10 seconds or more, and walk round the side of the car shining the light on the car.

Or....get a flashgun, with a remote trigger so you can place it on the floor somewhere aiming at the car.

How do you get images like these?! What camera do I need to buy??

Practice trumps camera TBH.

However, you need something that lets you control the settings. So avoid most point and shoot cameras. A bridge camera or an SLR will be fine.

But those could have been with a £150 D50. It's the person behind the camera that makes the difference.

Big improvement there mate :)

Also agree about the person being more important than the camera, any dslr will do.

Any suggestions for an entry level SLR? I only have a point and shoot at the moment!

How do you get the light to look like that? I've tried a few night shots but none have came out like that. (sorry for the HI jack)

The second picture looks really good.

Try a 30sec exp with some LED torches/ flashgun on the car. Maybe even less exposure if there's quite a lot of light there anyway.

2nd pic is a massive improvement though.

Cheers for all the responses lads, definitely stuff I will take on board.

As for those starting up the place I learned was right here on Cliosport. It's definitely knowing what to do with a camera rather than rolling with a 1 grand camera that gets results.
