Great update Mark, glad you finally got sorted on the PMS top mounts.

The new aluminium design looks far superior! Very similar to the KTEC ones now. Do you think you'll be getting the pms front strut brace?

Congrats to you both mark.
Bet your both made up :D

As for the car, top work as always.
Lots of little bits that are great to replace and make it feel like a new car :)

Thank you mate. Yes we are. We had spoken about children for a while now and planned on starting after we came back from Mexico for my sisters wedding. Due to the Zeka (sp?) Virus, it was advised we didn't try till 6 months after, so we kind of started around October time (she came 8ff the pill). I actually found out the day I fitted my BTM yozza. Once it was fitted, I came home to find my wife sitting with a gift box on the table. I opened it up to see the good news. How the box was in the picture I posted, was exactly how she presented it to me 😀

As for the parts, yes I'm trying to do the maintenance bits now, while I have spare time. I'm not sure when I'm due to go back to work, so its not only keeping me busy doing these little bits, but it can only be a positive in maintaining it 👍

Thanks mate. Yeah a bit of a bummer, but i think this was my best option, given my current situation. I did actually look at the Ktec but my mind was saying to get the PMS ones.

As for the brace, it is something that I would like to do. Its not a essential atm so it can wait but I think I will try and see if I can fit someone's first (@frayz 😉🤔) to see if it all lines up before I buy. The original holes that have been drilled (prior to me getting the car) are a little suspect, so I don't want to buy if they are well out. But as said, that's not important atm. The belts are the next main thing. I feel like its playing on my mind, and I just want them done as I'm at the service interval time now.

I really rate the KTEC ones. Did you take note of the PMS bearing size before fitting them? I know the KTEC ones are genuine SKF which is a little bonus, oem renault specs.

I reckon if i was buying new I would go the same and buy the PMS, everything i've heard about Nick is fantastic so i'd look to support his business. I get what you're saying on the brace, I had to slot my brackets so the brace went on. You're probably best buying 2nd hand if one comes up, then you dont feel so bad modifying it to fit. I'd always be happy running them on the mill at work for you.

No I bloody didn't. Totally forgot until fitted it all back up. When I spoke to Nick, he did say they was a imperial size due to them being a different bearing.

I always phone up now. He's always very informative and helpful and such a easy bloke to deal with, plus its nice to get a direct answer from someone who knows. Parts have always come next day too so I've nothing but praise.

Regarding the brace, I would buy second hand. Like you said, it feels less caring if it needs modifications. I appreciate that offer mate, so as always, thank you.

That's a bummer. Is he still offering the 'preload' version? I can't say I ever knew what that meant as you can't pre-load a spherical bearing? They're not designed to work how they are anyway so always fail prematurely because of the loading! And no worries, doesn't take long at all and still looks oem. Think i posted photos on my thread iirc.

And glad you'll be at CSF! You can't leave your mrs to go to the barn now she's pregnant. :(

Few more things have been done on the RB over the last few weeks.

I was told fuel had gone down and seen as the lockdown had been slightly lifted, i filled my car up. First time in 8 weeks!

Then took it for a drive the back way and got some pics.

My inner tie rods came so i fitted them. I also ordered a grill sticker as i was missing one side. Oddly Renault only do one side, but i thought it was the side i already had. Turned out it was the side i needed so bought that.

After fitting them, i put everything back together and took it for quick test drive to make sure all was good. Indeed it was apart from the tracking being miles out.

While being off on furlough (was due to go back at the near end of may, but was put off for another week) i did a week helping Alex at AW Motorworks. Whilst i was there i met @Ash J and @Stefan. which was pretty cool. Top guys too. Managed to get of Ash's trophy and my RB together.

Whist i was down there, Alex kindly sorted out my tracking so it was a lot better. Ideally needed it on a Hunter system but that was getting done the following week anyway so this was more than good enough for me.

With all that done, myself and @MrBlonde organised a little drive out last weekend while the weather was nice. It was just us 2 and we hit some good roads in north essex. Managed to get some good shots of both of ours too!

Alex sent me some pics during its time there. He changed the steering rack bushes the evening of me dropping it off so he could drive it to the alignment place first thing the next day. Upon changing the rack bushes, he noticed i was missing a rack bolt! Luckily he had a spare and fitted that with new black powerflex bushes. The next day, all the work was done. The timing was out, which he predicted. Was last done at SJM in 2015 i think. The water pump was also f**ked so im glad that was changed!

If anybody needs work doing, i would 100% recommend him. A genuine enthusiast and a guy that knows his stuff when it comes to Renault's. If you remember my old PH1, he did a look of work on that too, and it goes to show that when you are happy with somebody, you'll remain to return.

My RB feels and sounds so much better now! He highlighted how bad my gearbox was (which i knew) so im in talks with having one rebuilt. I did plan to do this eventually after the belts was done anyway. He also highlighted that i have a PH1 subframe. Not sure why thats been chnaged, but it was prior to me oning it. After a conversation, he has sourced me a 182 cup one, so in time, we will clean it up and swap all my bits over.

Mileage is now at 143k.

He had a spare grill cover so that was fitted also. Protects my alternator more now.

Imback at work now, so wile i was there this weekend, i prepped and painted my cup bulkhead panel. I have decided to remove the original bulkhead carpet as its a bit tired and i will replace it with some nimbus heatshield.

All in all, its been nice to use the car more and it feels so much better all round and gives me piece of mind that its had the maintence its required, so should be good for many more miles!

Had some old Nimbus at work that wasnt being used, so i used it to make my heat shield. The old one was loose on the Engine mount side and was not finished due to me removing my AC.

So with my new cup bulkhead blank painted, I ripped out the old bulkhead felt mat and preceeded to make my nimbus heat shield.

20200609_055713.jpg

The old mat was also soiled from a old power steering leak from the previous owner (i knew about this) so it was nice to clean up behind it. I kept the old plate in while I made my shape for the nimbus and once it was made, I fitted it with the newly painted cup plate. I drilled holes for the bolts to go into the bulkhead and for the existing screw and used the original plastic circular screw nut. I made it flow around the brake reservoir and brake pipes and low enough for the exhaust manifold.

Thanks guys.

I'd like to fit some rubber edging to it so its a bit more finished and less sharp. Any recommendations as to what? Maybe a small u piece, but has to be flexible to go round the corners without pinching up.

Kyle, I'm already there. Well kind of.

The bulkhead is a little pale in places where its not been fully painted from factory. This was one of the main reasons that its taken me so long to do this.

However, I do have some RB basecoat paint leftover and also have some RB 2k paint (although its slightly lighter but would be fine for engine bulkhead) so this is something that will be painted at a later date and when i do, I'll probably paint to cup plate to match. I just did it black for now as it blends in and looks OE looking.

I give it a few days before you paint it😉😂😂

I already wanna paint mine Monaco tbf, but then again my car looks like s**t compared to yours so I close the bonnet and the problem disappears funnily enough😂

Very nice fella. Your pictures are excellent and very inspiring. I love that red trophy it’s my favourite colour combo. So nice.
With regard to the heat Shield as I want to do this, is the black piece a standard item? I want to rip the carpet out of my cup it has no aircon already so will the heat shield just be the same as a base model one. Confused lol. See my thread in the engine section! Thanks dude.

Sorry for the late reply.

The black piece is standard 172 cup item. I would imagine a non sport with no aircon is the same too, but i cant comment further than that as i've never really looked into it. This panel is the same size and fitment as a air con 172/182 model, but just has it extended to cover the air con pipes.

One thing that has bugged me for years is the drivers side rear door card. Reason being is its all ok barring the top clip that's broken, exposing the drivers seat belt (near the B pillar)

Although this is minor for some, i know its not right. I have bought 2 different replacements over the years, both in the same condition, even after i've asked if the clips are intact! Well 3rd time lucky, thanks to @Mbeau as he had a set that have all clips intact. I only needed the drivers but he sent me the pair!

Just for the record, Mark is a top guy to deal with, very honest, and reliable and worth noting to give him a shout whenever he's breaking a car. I've bought quite a few things off him over the years and he's a trusted CS member (y)

I'll clean them up and fit them when i get a mo.

I also bought some 3d printed centre caps for my 2118s. Reason being is that my custom/current ones was so tight fitting them in the wheels, that it lifted some lacquer around the edges. Too much material on the sides i reckon. So i picked up some of @Louis 3D printed ones. He does various designs, being a all flat design, ones that copy the non sport hub caps with the centre raised, and this design which is like the non sport caps but a flat centre. I opted for this so i can stick on a renault diamond, to make it more OE looking. I have ordered a set of fake wheel caps so i can knick the diamond and place them on the 3D caps. I plan on doing the same as i did before, as in fit them in ally tubing, prep and paint them white, then pop them in the wheels. Once that's done, i'll sand down my current ones and repaint, hopefully with less material. These i'll keep as a spare.

50037550908_2d67fbc959_z.jpg

And i also went a bit louder too and bought a decat. The main reason for this was not to add noise/rasp (although i've always been curious since fitting the Yozza) but to get more clearance between the heat shield and the selector shaft. My sports cat must be quite bulbus, as there is no room between that, the heat shield and the selector shafter and no matter how i adjusted it, the shaft rubbed when selecting gears and the sound was pissing me off! Now i have clearance and a bit more noise and i'm happy to say that i think it sounds awesome! Lovely and raspy, no more unwanted rubbing noises and to finish it off, very little cabin noise increase, which i think i was worried about.

I bought the decat 2nd hand after @frayz linked me to it. It was cheap and the seller was nice and informative and made a easy transaction. Ordered friday, arrived monday. I also ordered a bung bolt too at the same time, which also came monday. I opted for a scorpion decat (although Toyosport do the same design) because i wanted a like for like replacement on my cat. I cant be bothered with modifying my Yozza to make it sleeved or V band, so this way it's easy for me to swap back at anytime, if i have or want too.

50035231617_84e211b3c3_z.jpg

50034973896_76b7281a8c_z.jpg

So after work, i got the RB in, jacked it up, removed the cat, gave the decat a very quick clean up (degreaser and red scotch and wire wheeled the flange) removed the existing lambda in it and replaced with the bung/bolt and fitted the decat. Took 30 mins or so, so a nice easy job.

50034973441_4a35c98c8a_z.jpg

The correct way for the cat fitting kit (gap is where the flange is)

49978492776_045f586b33_z.jpg

50034430363_4920b02be5_z.jpg

The only downfall is the EML light being on. This could be due to the well worn lambda that came with the decat as it was quite sooty. I couldn't remove my one in the cat and i couldn't be bothered to get any heat on it. I have a spare in the garage so i might fit that, or i'll get Alex at AW Motorworks to just map it out, which im thinking is my preferred choice, but for now its clipped into the loom and cable tied up in the heat shield. I will also look into getting better heat shields at a later date as mine are a bit manky and chewed up.

Done a few more things on the RB recently.

For a long time now, my gearbox has leaked and whined. It's only getting worse too. After talking to Alex at AWMotorsport, i've decided to get one rebuilt. Alex has already stripped a spare one and i steam cleaned it the other day. It will go off for vapour blasting before it comes back for the rebuild. I'ill keep my current box in, until we are ready to swap. I'll probably do the clutch while im there.

With a planned sunday blast to the coast coming up, i wanted to top up the gearbox oil. As i don't plan on keeping this box long term, halfords oil will do. Decided to drain and fill up fully instead.

Since i've recently had a full brake fluid change, i wanted to go back to my Mintex 1114's to see if they made much difference over my standard pads. Glad i kept these as i had them up for sale and they was still in good condition. Gave the brakes a clean up while i was there with some Muc-Off bike cleaner (which works well when used with a brush)

Fitted my replacement door cards that i had got recently. (you can see in the pic the broken clip in top right, which would pull away from the B-pillar when fitted) While i was doing so, i thought id check down the sills for rust. I've been putting this off for ages and was worried what i might find. Happy to say, i have nothing!

When doing the passenger side, i noticed a hole in the arch. This must have been recent as i had no water ingress, just dirt. So i found a small bung and i PU sealer'd it from the inside. Will do the outside this week. The residue is from some panel wipe to smooth over the sealer. (This is why i like to do these project threads as i like to keep it honest. Shows the full history of the car that way and there's no point hiding something, especially if i ever sell it. That way the future buyer is fully aware of whats been done)

Set off early sunday morning. The roads had a lovely sunrise breaking through with a bit of mist also. I grabbed a few pre meeting shots as i thought it looked cool.

Then met the boys up ready for a blast. These included @Ricardos @frayz @MrBlonde Will in his R26, a friend Chris in his 250/265/275 {not sure what one) and Scott which some may remember his scooby from here.

50106408783_0f8fbb8286_z.jpg

The route was great, driving was great from all, the weather was great and to top it off, the early roads was empty on the way up there so made for good fun.

50107214417_bb6f729e1f_z.jpg

We had breakfast and scrolled the fairly empty beach then headed back before it got too busy. Will and Richard left along route, so we pulled into this disused petrol station for some pics. I thought this one was cool.

I cant comment fully on that, but I did it a few years back when I needed something quick and just checked and it was GL5.

However, this isn't permanent, so hope it'll be OK until the rebuild is done.
