Just bought a 2002 172

Car  RB 182 Cup
I think i bought a bad nail.. The top end started to sound like a taxi 5 mins after the sale was complete..
I have a connector plug dangling from under the glove box???
Under the passanger seat is a mess, unpluged connectors???
The center console is humming/ electrical buzz real loud???
I dont think the ESP is working, i press it for upto 10secs and no lights or warnings (am i dong it right?)
the breaks look fine, but whew... They are absolutely rubbish..

First i will get the breaks looked at tomorrow by a professional,.. But were do i start with all these electrical issues?

All info welcome, thanks Steve

The connector under the glovebox could be for the Uch and unplugged as maybe your uch is gone? This would explain the ESP not working too

If the UCH was unplugged (It only has two multiplugs anyway) it wouldn't allow the vehicle to start.

Yep, sounds like you've purchased a problem child. My advice would be to either sell it on and walk away or take it to someone to get it fixed up correctly as its not going to be cheap. Pictures required before I can attempt to advise on unplugged connectors.

Top end taxi is the dephaser and it will only make a noise once warmed up on idle

That's 500 quid I'm afraid

is this a mega problem? will it hold out for atleast another month.. i have the money,.. but i dont wanna spend anythin on this car until it starts to look promising, the engine starts and runs fine, infact it pulls like a train..

Mick I could of sworn there's 3 connectors to the Uch?

And they call me a geek ;) No you're right, there are three plugs

@ Stephen - Can you get a photo of the passenger connection showing the face of the multiplug please?

As for the dephaser you can pretty much drive it if you like but when they get really bad, and to be clear i'm talking extreme cases here, they can let go big time allowing the inlet valves to float which mashes them with the pistons... drive at your own peril.

Looks like one of the plugs from the factory headunit to me (im guessing its got an aftermarket one fitted)? If so they're nothing to be worried about, tuck em back under the dash and forget :p

it has a complete fully working original head unit, i had to remove it for the CODE this morning. im pretty sure i dont have abs or traction control

I didn't think 02's came with esp?

No traction either, ABS it will have though

Wires under the passenger seat will possibly be for a missing cd changer

make sure its connected to something mind and not just a replacement panel - my old car was like that!
