Just crunched my clio 172 for the 2nd time this year :(

  172
Lorry just took most of the passanger side of my car off as well as the front bumper. It way my fault as i was too close to the car in front so when the guy did an emergancy stop on the A1 i didnt have enough time to come to a stop without hitting him. Instead i swerved into the left lane, however a lorry was coming up on th inside and decided to make some cosmetical changes to my car!

My excess is currently £350 due to a 50/50 claim back in March. It now looks like ill now have 0 no claims and two accidents inside 10 months :(

I dont suppose anyone has a passanger door, wing mirror, front quarter panel, bumper & head light for sale. I guess it needs to be off a 172/182?

ahhhh i could kick myself... the wife and boss was hasseling me about going though my insurance to get it sorted quickly, plus the car had been dumped by the highway mantinance in a rough area in newcastle so i need to get something sorted or leave it in an empty car park over night. i made the call to my insurance and the car was picked up and took to the repair centre an hour ago. ive now just got home from work to find your replys (thank you) as well as another post where a guy in sunderland (which is where i live) has a rear end damaged 172cup which he's breaking on ebay.

i suppose i could try cancel the claim but they'll probably now charge me for the removal of my car and a days storage!

suppose ill just pay my excess and see what my renewal is next year... if its over £800 then i think the clio goes on autotrader and ill go back to a 1.2 :(

lesson to be learnt here, dont drive to close to the guy in front when its raining in heavy traffic! even the traction control didnt save

Sorry to hear that mate.... been in similar situations my self, mainly due to faulty brakes when i first got the car, and you literally have 0.1 seconds to check the other lane, i managed to get away with it though.

Just been informed from the accident repair centre there's £2.5k worth of damage. They're now waiting on their engineer to check suspension/axel/drive shafts, etc so it may still go up. I've also called my insurance and they've said the would approve the repair if its just the body work. They reckon it'll probably be a wright-off if theres any further damage as its a 52reg.

Not sure if i'd prefer it to be written off as i dont think i'll be able to afford the insurance now :( . Also if it is repairable i guess it will be registered against the car so its value will decrease when i come to sell it.

What kinda price do you i would be offered if its written off? its a 172ff, 52reg with 34k on the clock. no mods?

Wont be listed agianst the car mate, unless its a write off, so as long as the repair is good you will be fine.

5-6k as dave says value wise.

cheers at least it aint all bad ;)

i've just been updated from the engineer and he's confirmed there was no structual damage, only cosmetical/body work damage so it looks like i'm getting her back :)

however i still think i'll need to sell it at the end of the year as my insurance renewal's going to be through the roof.

i still cant beleive it, last year i was coming upto 4 years no claims and 10 months later i have 3 points and 2 claims against me... gutted.

assuming the 172 has to go what would people go for as a replacement. obviously i want something cheapish to insure but also want something desent to drive and has a bit bhp.

the MG ZR 160 caught my eye the other day. any thoughts and what group insurance do they fall under? also, something that doesnt gusel petrol would be nice as i'm lucky to get 32mpg out of my clio

Lupo GTI's are cracking cars. Group 12 insurance iirc

alternatively you could look at 106 Rallye/Gti's

obviously there's loads more to look at, but they would be what i'd go for.

Not good to hear :(

Don't be too hasty about abandoning the Clio though, you never know you might get lucky with an insurance quote.

But if you do then something like a Skoda Fabia vRS might be a good shout: nippy enough, look semi-OK(ish!), decent spec, and IIRC only insurance group 7 or 8 (although I stand to be corrected :D). And doesn't guzzle petrol (being a diesel lol)

Sorry to hear this...a lesson there for everyone.

Got to say, well done for being the first person I can recall who's posted up about an accident they had and included the words "It was my fault...". Not enough people take responsibility for their own actions these days.

well after a long 3 weeks and a £300 excess bill i finally got my little clio back from the repair centre and she looks/feels better than ever. i've been driving a 1.0s micra (curtosy car) during the week and the wifes 1.2 clio at the weekend so it was a nice change to jump back in the seat of my 172... it may be a french car that developes a new rattle every 6 months but its nippy and fun to drive :)

i thought i had made my mind up and wanted to sell it, seen as my insurance is probably gonna be around the £1k mark next year. But having driven to scotland twice this week in a micra its kinda made me appreaciate it. I'm not sure i'd find something i'd like as much for the equivalent value £££. The wife wont be pleased if i tell her im thinking of keeping it :p

Anyway they replaced the passanger door, wing mirror, passanger side front wing, front bumper and the font passanger side allow/tyre. i was supprised at the alloy/tyre as it wasnt really damaged. the plastic centre cap had cracked and the alloy had been chipped/badley scratched. The bonus is that wheel just happend to have had a nail in it. The down side is they've replaced my tyre with the standard continetal sport tyre :( My insurance has picked up the £2.5k bill so taking into account the £1k bill they paid last year im sure they'll punish me when i come to renew my insurance :(

Sorry to hear about your accident, but pleased to hear you were not hurt and your car is all better now. :)

If you find you have to sell her because you can't afford the insurance renewal, how about going for a 16v 1.6? They are pretty darn nippy, don't drink the fuel and are only a group 8. If you really like Clios, that's what I would do.;)
