Just driven Williams 0001



Yeah apparently not mate,

Think the 1st one was also LHD, seems like ol Frankie had it locked-up somewhere.

Guess well all know the truth in an ickle while.
 


Yeah Williams 0001 was written off by Frank Williams, even though Frank can barely smile, let alone move his legs! ;)

I want a go!!
 


Went to Williams factory this afternoon to see 0001 for my web site. Definately NOT written off. Very much alive. Has been kept stored with 19 km on the clock since it was delivered in 1993. This car still has the original paper mats that came with the car. Overall the bodywork is in good condition, but was suprised that my car is in better condition. The engine sounded rough on tickover, but this disapeared when the clutch was depressed (any technical guys know why this may be). Had a little drive in it just to say id driven it. Very strange driving a left hand drive car. The engine bay was obviously very clean. The interior was imaculate as expected. Johnathon Williams was very helpful and a really rather nice guy, and he looks like his dad too.

Oh and to all of you budding drivers who think that they could hack it in F1. Apparently Damon Hill took out a brand new Williams around the old Nuremberg circuit and destroyed the brakes in just 20 odd miles racing round the track. Im going to try to track down this car too and find out who owns it now.
 


king stromba, didnt u join up to the saxo sports club recently and try to sell williams 2? but it was number one due the 1st one being wrote off?

wasnt it low milleage and bought from a family friedn, 19k if i remember, and u wanted 8k i think

might be wrong but i think it was you. hello!

The way my brakes are, wouldnt be surprised it was mine....

Still got no joy with seeing the pics tho mate,

21 miles on the clock ....... and I thought I was sad with 3.5K after a year (GR mode)!!!:oops: That car looks the biz ...... youre a lucky guy to see the No.1 and drive it :cool:
 


I wonder if there were two sets of plaques, one for the LHD cars and one for the RHD cars. Mine was LHD #3369...

well done on tracking it down, those bl*ody journs havent got a clue !

one thing though how did you drive it with no petrol in it ?

or does the needle drop when its not switched on ?

as mine stays where it is !
 


It had petrol but the light was on. Thet store it with minimal petrol in it to prevent corrosion (apparently). Light prob wasnt on because engine wasnt.

No, i was allowed cos im setting up a website on the history on the Williams clio. The Clio is usually kept from public gaze in storage. I was very lucky to go and see it. I just drove it in the car park so i could say that i had driven it.

didnt Jeremy Townsend say there were 2 williams 001s ?? one left hand drive & one right hand drive ??? if this is the case (& im not doubtin jeremy for 1 second)......where is williams 001 RHD ?? as in my opinion (seein as we live in the UK) this is really the first williams as it was made for the british market being RHD format !! the left hooker that you drove there was for the european market. wheres RHD williams 001 ???
