just got me first clio cup

  RenaultSport clio 172 Cup
Hi all jus picked up my first clio. Got a 172 cup on 52 plate with 40k. Bit small compared to my just sold bmw x5.haha Test drove a few of these before buying this one. Was a bit steep at 7k but was the cleanest one and got 2 year warranty with it. The only thing is though that I find it is a bit slow at low end speed. Really does need winding up to get it going. Does anyone else find there one is the same? Also bit lumpy even when hot but most I drove were the same. Will post some pics soon.
Cheers
Ricky

all abit lumpy on tick over, when they are cold (just after start up) they are especially so!. I found mine very responsive when i first got mine, but thats because i come from turbo power with LAAAG, but like you said wind em up and they fly!!

oh and welcome!!

Will take some Monday after work. Wanna keep it looking completely standard but do a few non cosmetic mods to bump performance.

Thanks for your welcomes all. Guess mine feels a little slower on low end as had 4.4 v8 x5.lol
But for a car costing this little and what it gives back in driving pleasure I gotta say I am very happy.

Its unusal to be lumpy when hot then again it depends what you think of as lumpy a X5 isn't exactly a cheap car.

Guess some things I will always compare to the x5. That was the smoothest engine ever but like ya say very very expensive.lol
80 quid ti fill the x5 and only do 400 miles tops
40 quid for the clio this morning and done 100 with just under 3/4 left so very good return and of course had to test the performance out so very pleased.

good start would be to get the inlet manifold and plenham (bit with reault sport on) matched, this is reasonably cheap mod, and depending on the state of the ones fitted to your car releases good gains. Also don't bother with pipercoss vipers etc, just change the panel filter for an ITG item :)

have a butchers here

I done bit of research before buying this and is it true that the performance difference of the 172 and 182 is the inlet manifold? Also whats ITG?lol

ITG make air filters, pm BRUN on this site as he can get hold of the filters at a discount :)

and its the exhaust manifold that is different :)

The difference is down to the exhaust manifold and exhaust system being different not the intake manifold.
The intake manifold can be modified to allow for more power its about £160 to do.

ITG is an induction kit from a company called ITG.

Just looked on site and see that ITG was a brand.lol
Many thanks for that.

I found *prepare for a million different opinions* that my 172 ran very very lumpy when run on 95ron petrol. Since that one and only tank full, its only ever been optimax or equivolent in europe (Vmax).

As for slow low end, they're quick once going but i'd imagine the V8 had a fair old chunk of grunt. And in fairness, they more than make up for it in the corners.

  Clown Car
I always find the car more lively when running on optimax, quite a few people on here have had their ecu re-flashed with the group N spec/custom group N spec map that improves bottom - mid range.

  RenaultSport clio 172 Cup
I have always run on optimax since it first come out and have tried other fuels and there is a definate difference. Not taking the cup out today as think it would be a bit stupid in this weather.lol
Thanks for all the hellos everyone. When I joined a x5 forum had about 2 welcomes.lol
Must be all them stuck up beemmmm owners.lol

not had time to do pics yet as working like mad and mrs using car to go to work and back. lol
lucky cow whilst i got me white van.lol

  Monaco Blue Mk2
Give her the van lol! Welcome to the club. Enjoy the car and get throwing it round those corners, you will think it corners at impossible speeds coming from a 4x4! lol. Unusual upgrade...from x5 to 172cup!

  BMW M3
Welcome to CS !

My dads got the 4.6 V8 X5 and is a lovely car. Pretty evenly matched to 60 (182 just leading the way) but has mountains of power and torque so soon flies past. Handles suprisingly well too i would say, almost saloon like.

Anyway, When i first joined here, I was adamant that the clio would stay standard. And after a year here ive now had it mapped by PMurray www.rstuning.co.uk, inlet menifold matched, ITG panel filter, Janspeed backbox, cup spoiler and suspension and sports cat to come. So what im saying is that there is tonnes of helpful info on here when ever you want it to help make the best mods for your car.

Enjoy the cup mate

cheers all
And with reference to the handling Blue4Ever....... I would say the x5 was near enough on par with the Clio believe it or not.lol
Seriously the x5 was excellent and you could throw it about with ease. Most x5 owners dont use it in that way but i like to push all my motors to the limit.lol
Pics are def gonna be done this weekend and aslo gonna arrange for the one very very tiny dent to be taken out.
