Just sold my Silver 172 Cup and bought new 197

1400 kg's aint that far off mate

5 turbo - 813kg
205gti - 910kg
williams - 981kg
cup - 1011kg
182 - 1110kg
197 - 1240kg

f**k me the cups were light! The current clio in various updates and face lifts will be around for a while.

If they could do a 197cup with 100kg less which would take it down to 182 weight they would have a winner I reckon.

Trophy weight; Kerb weight (excluding driver)(kg) 1075.

A lot less than people think ;)

drinking vintage wine and smoking fine cuban cigars is what I would say are the finer things in life, driving around in a Ferrari are finer things in life... driving a £17k clio that nearly any 21+ year old on here can afford on tick isn't what I'd consider the finer aspect of life tbh lol... you'd get more kudos picking up a 2nd hand E46 M3, E39 M5, Skyline R33 GTR, Mitsi Evo, Lotus Exige etc etc IMO, as there's no way anyone can argue a Clio is better than any of those (least not as an overall package).

It's horses for courses, but all things being equal it's still a Renault at the end of the day and only has 158bhp/ton and is £17k... £5k over priced whatever way you look at it. I'm sure it handles better, but then that's something no one here will be able to exploit, pressing pedals and going that bit quicker however any idiot can do, so for all intents and purposes it's the slowest RS in that respect and that's the only reason I buy these cars. Fast cheap fun. It's no exec car, it's not a nice place to be, it's not particularly comfy, it's looks dont shout wow or draw admiring glances from passers by (unless its a Williams), so really it holds less appeal to someone off here that it would to Joe public. People buy these cars because they are cheap and fast... but the dogging potential with the larger capacity interior is a selling point

That is definately your own opinion and not necessarily shared by the motoring industry and my fellow work colleagues.

Ohh and by the way I didn't get mine on tick, well not completely. I put a 6k deposit down and got the rest on RF for 0%.

Not 21 either, an IT Professional for Vodafone at 31! And I do know the finer things in cars, as there are thousands of them in our car park at the VF World HQ!

Yeah it's my opinion, but here's a question. How many people in the motoring industry own a 197? I bet the answer is close to none. Also you said that none of your work colleagues have them and with you all being high rollers where the lowest model in the car park is some form of BMW, then this must suggest something to you?

Don't get me wrong, they are pretty cool cars, the looks have grown on me, but to a Clio enthusiast it's not been well received. The majority of folk that reside on CS are bang into their Clio's and most buy the 2.0 models for one real reason only, performance. No one here is Jean Ragnotti, so when it comes to it being able to corner marginally better/quicker it's not really of any benefit when we are all better and more adept at pushing pedals. Some people will just be happy with a 2.0 and probably never hit the redline, so their criteria for a new car will be different to someone that pays closer attention to power, torque and weight. I'd not buy one for the simple fact it's the same engine pushed to the limits and has a fancy 6 speed box to try and get over the 1200+kg's it now needs to weigh. It's now more grown up, that's a bad thing though as it's almost Focus and CTR size and compared to the Megane it's just not VFM.

So at 31 years old you couldn't afford it outright?

You need to work harder mate.

What a strange thing to say. :S

For all you know he could have just got himself a house or a family etc. Not everyone has ££££ to throw at cars.

Question is, why is everybody in this thread apparently acting like retarded children. Leave the guy alone, and everybody just chill thew fk out...

Why must 197 owners assume that us 1*2 owners are jealous? If I wanted a 197 I'd get one! Yes I've driven one, and I don't dispute it being a great car, but it's just not for me. It seems to have lost a lot of the character the 182 has, and if I were to go for a more grown up, refined or better build car then I'd personally go for the Megane.

given the thread creators bragging over a £17k shopping trolley I think it's pretty hilarious

...and given the continual bragging about how supreme his new motor is, how we all don't respect it, how we need to all grow up, how he is personally surrounded by money and supercars we should all worship, how he is an "IT Professional for Vodafone at 31!", I thought it far from harsh.

Totally apt in my opinion.

He put down 6k on it and got the rest on 0% finance, well done I say :)

Clearly you know very little about making good financial decision in the current state of our economy...lol

Unfortunately you fail to understand that in this day and age it's more beneficial to take advantage of free money from an interest free loan and put more equity into paying off the mortgage. Which is exactly what I am doing.

And besides, there arn't many people in many professions that buy cars outright, 95% are on finance. A car is not an investment.

Well I thought it was a good deal!

You might percieve it be bragging mate, but all I've said from the start is that it's a quality car. It's not my issue if you have a problem with that.

You are absolutely correct.

I don't mean to be disrespectful (it really is not in my nature), but from the outset this thread and your responses, have genuinely had me laughing out loud on several occassions.

It's getting tiresome now so don't worry, I'll leave be.

Ok I agree, this is getting silly now.

agreed, he's happy with his purchase, I'm happy with my poverty spec Ph1 172 with 220bhp/ton... I'll 'upgrade' at a later stage ;) pmsl

Having bought my 182 from new and it hitting 30K today I am considering a new motor. I just cannot justify buying a brand new 197. I really wanted to like them but until they sort out the obvious gripes I'm not willing to go for it.

Well said Deb! At the end of the day, if you dnt like the car the dnt buy it, and have some respect for those that do like it and have bought it, it's their money let them spend/waste it how they want!

i also agree that its lost alot of the character, the 172/182 same as the williams etc is that they are small and quick - the clio 3 197 is no longer that small, yeah ok its quick, but thats where the similarities end im afraid!

your first post was funny hustlechild as it made me laugh due to the 197 vs 182 debate. everything else has just diluted it tbh. arguing on cs is a pointles exercies, however it is enjoyable.

maybe i should post somethnig to get this thread closed....
