k-tec stealth

  172 ph1
absolutly sick after 2 solid days of looking ive just decided to go for a stealths i dont really wana cut the bumper so hope they r as good as there made out 2 b....

itg filter next then remap!

any1 know what sorta power gain il get from the 3?

  Not a 320d
Power? No.

My mate has a 172 cup, pannel filter, remap, sports cat and a ktec stealth, it makes 169bhp.

I think the stealth is great, i dont like noisy exhausts, its a little rough when idling, id go as far as saying it sounds like its cammed lol, but its reasonably quiet and easy to live with under normal driving, but gives a good note and noise when booting it.

thatl do me lol its fast enough as it is itl just get rid of this hole in the centre section! what about a de cat i no a lad who rekons he can do a de cat for 50 quid so....might go for that aswel if its worth it? as for air my pipe has been cut which runs from the front of the car into the air box..u think itl make a difference in power i just hope its not nackin any power?

  Not a 320d
I personally wouldnt but ive not been in a car thats had a straight through pipe. Plenty of people do it, id rarther have a sports cat though. I would get a new pipe for the airbox, although i dont think it will make much difference you might get a little heatsoak without it. Can you invest in a decent induction kit ? Im not a fan of them though ive never liked the sound, had a bog ass k&n filter on my old 1.2 and i removed it within a month.

Knew another lad who owned a 172 although he doesnt have it anymore, he had the first Stealth and i couldnt hear myself think at 70mph and it was very very boomy, im guessing my friend who owns the cup has the quieter version.

I seriously doubt youll get big gains from a remap and an exhaus and airfilter. but its worth doing.

  172 ph1
me m8s got a enclosed air filter but not sure about fitting it to mine id rather just changed the filter and somehow repair the pipes

  172 ph1
a heard about this bu its find 1` cheap unless its second hand and fittin it might be a ***** is it?

im well happy with my stealth ... was rapid delievery, and really easy to fit!! sound is nice and quiet around town (for an afertmarket exhaust) dont be fooled by the its as quiet as standard though i dont think it is although i have the supersports stealth. It has no drone until you get to about 70-80mph but when you floor it its nice and raspy and sounds mint (not chavy) and with the lifetime warrenty for the first owner you cant really go wrong to be fair. think i got some vids lying round somewhere if you wanna see them

I quiet like my SS stealth, just done another 500 motorway miles in the last couple of days without any probs.

Although as soon as it's not a daily driver, I will be going for a yozzasport race system.

  172 ph1
Just to throw another option into the pot... The BTB Stealth system is the same price as the K-Tec and in stock atm see http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=452983&highlight=BTB+stealth
ordered one now mate...from ktec hopefully it will come asap cos mines just fucked lol im taking my lass to halfords to take some stuff back for herself 2day and i rekon its gona fall off at some point between here n there lol! mite get a bandage from halfords n c if that does anything..me mates gona fit the stealth for 20 quid so not much really

  Ph 1 172
lol i was just about to put up the vids but not much point as you have gone for it all ready what one did you go for in the end the mild steel or stainless steel? and the nl or super sports one?

  172 Cup
would defiently 100% go for yozzasport syealth over the k-tec. Quality is poor and is clearly a cheap replacement. Its not a "sports exhaust" its a sporty sounding standard replacement.

If you like then go for one

Exactly my thoughts. I sold a 4 week old stealth that was fitted to my car, and got o.e.. I also had one of the first mk2 stealths back a few years ago. That lasted a week pmsl!!! Pure w**k imo!!

I have had my stealth for about 8 months or so with no problems.
What was wrong with yours Gaz-Kev?

They don't sit right for a start, which absolutely defeats the point of 'STEALTH', boomy, motorway driving is unbareable. Would rather drive a 1.2 corsa with a japcan back box.

For a full system at 350 quid, its basically s**t.

From the sounds of things, B2B stealth, Yozza Stealth sound good.

Also hate the way as its sold as a direct replacement. It clearly isnt. BTB on my 182 was the best fitting aftermarket system i've ever had. Thats where my ££ would be going

My super "stealth" is such a bad fit, can spot it a mile off..... fitted by a highly recommended garage and been looked at by 3 others since and none of them will touch it.......

Yeah i fitted mine myself, doesn't really need a specalist, i have adjusted it 3 times too, really can't get it any better.

Fred recommended some high temperature spray paint in black. Looks a lot lot better and harder to notice, just spray the backbox and tip.

  Monaco Blue 172 (56/468)
cheers for that but its a mild steel one so is black anyway and the tip has gone white over the winter so stands out like a sore thumb

going to sell it (sure someone will have it) and the old k-tec exhaust i took off when i bought the car and get a proper system that sits right - was gutted when i took it to this guy who everyone recommended and he raised the car up, looked at it and started tutting.......

They are fine imo, ive had mine since they where released and for the money you cant do wrong with it. Its not that loud really until it gets really hot then it is abit louder as you would expect, on motorways at 70/80+ its fine, not loud at all. This is still with the CAT fitted.

In regards to fitting it, mine was fitted really badly to start with, the second garage phoned K-tec who informed them to loosen all joints and twist it to get it to sit better, which is now done and with the rear pipe slightly trimmed, it sits fine.

My thread on it from some time ago:

My stealth was fitted by K-tec and sat perfectly.
Only recently it started to droop because of the poor renault rear exhaust mount.
JMS sorted my mount out today and my stealth sits perfectly again.

Are people maybe mistaking the stealth not sitting properly when it could actually be there rear exhaust mount knackered?

What type of garage looks at an exhaust and says "we aint touching that?" lol

Anyway, id recommend sorting the rear exhaust mount and seeing how it sits after, im guessing it sits low and is visible from the rear at the moment?

  TTRS & V50
Tried that too.

Got two brand new mounts when i fitted it, then i put to sockets in the rear mount, it now sat perfect, but every bump i went over, the backbox hit the top heat shield. So i took them out straight away and put up with the sag.

At the end of the day, you should fit a 'STEALTH' exhaust and it should fit, you shouldn't have to pack the f**k outa the exhaust mount to get it to fit, they shouldn't have made it so fooking heavy.

Cool, will have a look at mine in the new year and do it myself......

Yeah I did replace the old exhaust mount as that had given way. Guy said he didn't want to touch it if it ended up going wrong it wouldn't be covered by the warranty and another guy said he just couldn't get it to sit any higher/

Just annoyed that i've been messing around with it for months now and it still isn't right and that i might have to drive down to k-tec to sort it.

.

Ah i see, they wouldn't touch it due to warranty. fair enough.

Slammed172, i dont think the Ktec stealth is the only exhaust that hangs low due to the rear mount being cack.
Pretty much any exhaust you fit will probably not hang correctly due to the Renault rear mount being so poor.
BTB seem to have come up with a good solution by using a second mounting position.

Will need to get pics of how mine now sits, can't see the tailpipe from the rear at all and it doesn't rattle off the car/heat shields either.

The only criticism i have for the Ktec stealth is the middle box is too big (wide) so you have to drop the whole exhaust everytime you want to tighten the handbrake. Could be just the way iv got it with the 182 main tho

Apart from that coming from a Magnex to Prospeed then to Ktec's like a dream come true lol. Would highly recommend

Noise levels are fine for a 2.5'' bore. Can have a convo without having to shout, not boomy at all imo.

Well worth sticking a decat on a ph1 but buy one off the shelf then you get the proper recess for the mesh / spring kit.

Fitted my SS stealth yesterday, Now i've fitted a lot of exhausts in my time ( Motor trade ) And i found it to be a good fit and the quality was spot on... No mucking around trying to get it sitting right.

Nice rasp and not that boomy, Mine is stripped out too. Was heavy though, But then stainless usually is...
