K20 powered 172

Hi all. I'm new to the French car scene. I stumbled a cross this 172 cup as my previous track car was set on fire on my drive

Here it is

So plan is to build it for track/weekend blast and a trip or 2 to the NurburgRing.

I'm coming from a vag back so new to the renault way and N/A engine.

Few pics of my old track toy

quick spec - forged engine 300bhp 310ft, AP racing brakes, B16s, custom wide track, custom manual steering conversion, carbon bonnet, LSD fully stripped.

Plan is to build the clio to better spec, not to worried about the power difference as I love how the clios engine goes. I don't miss the turbo feeling driving the clio as I have this for a daily

seat leon cupra K1 2.0l turbo

The clio is now sat in my garage awaiting the work to start as I've brought a fair bit already

Thats all for now will need some hint and tips along the way so please share them

Wow, you don't mess around! Love the Cupra - I had a similar one a few years ago, was running k03s, FMIC, Custom Code "Stage 2+", RR'd at 252bhp & 310lb/ft (if I recall correctly), I loved it!

I whipped the front end off this morning before work.

Anyone got a guide for deleting the carbon canister

and anyone know what this is?

that thing is the acoustic valve, its attached too the end of one of the standard airbox feeds, and for the carbon canister I just took it off and secured wires and hose away.

Yeah just whip the carbon canister off! I just pulled mine off and cut the wires out and blanked off the hose.

A mate of mine still has one the same colour as your old one, Dave Martin from Birmingham don't know if you know him?

What setup were you running on the Ibiza exactly?

LSD was the best mod I did

So cracked on tonight after work. Got plenty done

Found it's had a bump once in its life, nothing to bad just bend the corner of the crash bar. But it's making it hard work to remove the carbon can as all the nuts/bolts are just spinning lol

Removed some stuff

Wanna sell the shocks/springs and dogbone can I post in the forsale section yet?
Then started to fit my new engine mounts

Started fitting my Pure Motorsport topmounts and strut brace

Started removing the exhaust and heat shield to drop the gear shift tower out.


Proper bodged exhaust hanger

I then forgot to take pics as I went and took a bulk few in progress


Coilovers, top mounts, strut brace, rear arb, snap off boss, steering wheel, rear strut brace and gear shift kit all fitted just need to adjust the gear shift kit.

Also drilled the rear bumper haha

Treated to New headlights

Bumper drilled, just need to drill the crash bar.

Hopefully get get some more done tomoz, needs the inner tie rods changing and possibly read discs and pads

Oh anyone got any hints and tips on setting the PMS linkage up??

I've put the linkage together (gearbox end) with out doing up the little 10mm nut and 5mm Allen key bolt (clamps the black link bar to the gold pivot joint) I can select all gears R & 1-5 fine, as soon as I tighten the last bolt I can't get reverse or if I tight the bolt whilst it's in reverse I can only get reverse and 1St any quick tips? I had to stop for me tea before I could finish it lol

Yeah that's him, Vince. Awesome bloke. Had my car on the rollers from 1pm till 8pm lol mapping it to how I wanted it to feel and to his experience of what works and doesn't lol.

haha you still swapping cars lol? What you got atm? Is recommend getting one tho, outs a smile on my face every time I drive it

Might go stage 1, can't be doing with putting loads a money into the leon. Everything you need for stage2+ is around 1k, like the clutch decat/sport cat, Apr HPFP lol to much money lol.

Will drop you a text when I have some spare cash about a stage 1 map

Did more on the car tonight

got the PMS linkage all set up mine was hitting the lambda sensor in 4th and 5th, hitting the tunnel in 5th, 1st and reverse. All sorted now tho which is good. Seat position with the steering wheel closer and the gear stick closer really makes a difference

anyway few pics of the linkage

with that done I whipped the track rod ends off and steering boots off to find the inner tie arms completely knackered. Just gotta get me tool to undo them.

also ripped out the carbon can

also pulled some of the interior out guessing most of it's been out before as there clips broken screws missing and things generally not put together well lol.
Will try and get more work done Thursday night

Whip inner track ends out last night. So easy when you've got the tight tools for the job.

There proper knacker. Got some new ones from work so will whip them on soon along with a new drive shaft as the inner joint in the drivers side is knackered.

Changed the drive shaft and inner joints tonight.


Drive shaft boots were falling apart and had been bodge (like most things on this little clio) with cable ties which had let all the grease out lol.

Did abit tonight


Fitted new steering boots

And removed the wishbones ready for the new ones

Powerflex bushes only been fit since April


Also went abit mad with an angel grinder and chopped abit of the crash bar out, need to tidy the bar up now lol

Fitted some new wipers as mine where totally gone.

as I didn't get in the garage till half nine I decided not to turn the angel grinder on and cut the crash bar out slightly, instead I pulled the interior out well most of it.

bloody filthy lol. Will need some tlc to get how I want it.

All of the interior when in the boot of my K1 helped tidy things nicely

Anyone got any tips on the AX single wiper conversion? What's needed etc

Brought one of these to help set the camber up

Cut the crash bar out for the air flow

Same with the bumper

Have it a lick of paint to stop rusting

Then moved onto the wiring in the back, so striped the spoiler off and headlining

and pull the wires through the boot and stripped all the wiring off the wheel arches

Stripped and tidied.

all the sound Deading is striped out even the roof lining silicone which was a right pain

and near side all tidied along with the boot wiring

Wires all ran in the new places

I would not have done that to the front crash bar though, drilling circular holes like you have done to the bumper would have been sufficient

Unfortunately I've come home tonight to find some penis has broken in my house and turned it upside down looking for my spare car key and found them and nicked my car at 4.30pm this afternoon.
