Kangoo 172 cup

Hi all a few pics of my Kangoo with 172 cup running gear. Bought this last year as a cheap track whip and basically done all the jobs on it to finish it off. Might bring it to the CS festival this year as my Extra turbo is still off the road awaiting a new engine.

Spec is stock 172 engine & running gear/brakes etc - 182 manifold & 1 silencer longlife stealth exhaust, 172 cup front shocks on mark fish eibach front springs, -2.5deg negative camber up front/ten mins of toe out overall and rear torsion bar lowered to suit. Have done a couple of trackdays in it and its great fun for a van cornering on par with a good 172

Did you have any joy finding some springs ? Much left to do ??

Got some red Eibach fronts from Mark Fish but not managed to fit them yet as weather has been crap and been busy stripping a 182

It’s nearly done, just need to sort the exhaust, bleed the brakes (managed to fit rear discs) and finish fitting the seats.

Is there any upgrades to the rear suspension on these? Is it possible to go coilover rear?

I love these vans. This looks especially good on the 2118s. How do they handle?

Handling is really good comparable to a good 172 really, very stable and usual lift off oversteer. Just feels like driving a clio - turn in is great no understeer.

What does it weigh and does it handle well??

From research the kerb weight is 1080kg so maybe a little bit heavier than a 172 ? Seems to pull just as well. When i done Cadwell park in it last year it had a bit of pull on some of the 172/182s there and just as quick in the corners.

Is there any upgrades to the rear suspension on these? Is it possible to go coilover rear?

The torsion bars on the rear are 26mm as stock so quite beefy, pretty much the same setup as clio1 16v/williams. I plan on fitting some gaz gold rear shocks on the back at some point. You would need to turret the rear to fit coilovers really so quite a big job.

Love both of your vans massively. Looks so good on the 2118's in white

Been looking at the 2118s for ages ans just went for it in the end. Hopefully get back on the extra soon as the weather pics up. Too cold in the garage at the mo haha.

A few more from Croft last year on the cup turinis. Done 2x sets of pilotsport 3’s in over 2 trackdays so had to go for cheaper 15” rubber. Could do with some negtive camber up rear and better shocks on the back.

That is hilarious!!!! Although I think it needs steel wheels to really set it off.

Cheers all its great fun to drive

Love it, I feel it needs more epic seats though!

Might go bucket seats and cage in the future. I had an ex mk2 cliocup omp Renaultsport seat recently which would have been good, sadly it was a skinny fit seat and i couldnt fit in it so had to go:disappointed:

That is hilarious!!!! Although I think it needs steel wheels to really set it off.

My 2nd choice of wheels was mk1 clio16v spare wheels. Still tempted to get a set in stock.

Give it a wash the other day have to get the hop up out to reach the roof. As soon as the weather sorts itself out will hit it with the da as the paint is a little bit oxidised. Front heels are black again after ten miles lol.

If you're doing steelies - you need to get 4 willy steelies - they're wider and look even better!

Willy 7j steels would be great. I wish i had picked up a set years ago when they were cheap as chips.

I paid £40 for a set of 5 years ago, I sold them for £100 and thought I was a baller at the time.
Basically never sell anything ever - it's worth far more the older to dying you get!

I love the kangoo conversions on here. They just look so good. I’d have one in a heartbeat.

After a long winter and a fresh set of white wheels it highlighted the paint needed a bit of tlc on the Kangoo. First good day on a weekend so decided to crack on.

The paint had gone very oxidised on the roof/sides as it had not been very well cared for in the past. The paint was also very soft and had been agressively polished with a heavy cut and poss rotary before as i noticed that its almost struck through to primer on some edges so had to proceed with real caution as a heavy cut which was really needed was not possible. I really needed a paint thickness gauge but did not have one available so just done the tested method of using the least agressive cut to get the job done.

First stage was wash and clay. Followed by mask up..the clay was absolutely black off the roof.

Masked up and i cracked on. Im still a novice with the da having only used rotary and g3 many years ago so had to proceed with caution. I started on the roof incase of a f**k up and could hide it easy. 2×2 foot area marked out and tarted by using a finishing pad on the da with no cut and poorboys white diamond glaze. One pass with the da and whiter but no shine. Tried a chemical guys finishing polish on the finishing pad and not much better. Next step was a chemical guys light cutting compound and blue light polishing pad. Come up nice and white so give it 2 passes to work the compound in whilst checking the pad for paint transfer. Looked minimal so went for it.

Pic of the roof half way through. Its a little hard to see but the difference is night and day, lower part of pic after first cut.

Front and sides done, should have masked up better really but time permitting was adequate.

After this i give it a once over with Poorboys white diamond glaze and finishing pad to try and fill any imperfections and improve finish

Bird s**t on it before applying wax - the joys of living near the seaside lol

This in total took 5-6 hours - there is a lot of panelwork on a van even though it is a small one ! I should have stripped mirrors and trims off really but it would have rolled into 2 days work easy.

After this i applied 2 coats of Collinite 476s wax to seal the cleaned and glazed paint, by hand this time as shoulder was killing me off the da. No trim gel as waiting for some Gtechniq c4 to arrive.

Happy with the finish however i feel i could have improved it a lot better if it had more paint on it. I guess its had stickers removed in the past and quick flog over with a rotary. Would have been nice to wet sand it and really bring it up but this is what i have so worked with it. Thanks for reading !
