Kev, advise/FAO of etc

As I can't text you this little lot, and DW is shite at the mo for your username;

Hi guys,

I've read the stone chip and scratch threads on here (thanks to Russ/Reflectology) but just wanted a last bit of advice.

I have the following scratches from when some kind young chaps slid across my bonnet and stole my Alu wing mirrors on my S3;

I have paint and some cellulose clear coat as suggested to mix together, I'm going to buy a tiny paint brush and use the "join the dots" technique.

After this, I'll wet sand with a backing block with 3000 and then polish up.

Does this sound about right? Can I use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process? Any other tips or advice?

It work so well on stone chips mate, my advise is don't use a brush, I used a MF applicator to do the Puma, you want to wipe over the scratch area, use a heat gun to lightly heat, then build up a few layers then wet sand back. Be careful though mate as that wing scratch won't have much clearcoat left, it's a high edge.

It's tricky to do but it's worth it, the Puma 1/4 panels looked so good even close up where they were white dots before.

Lols at the title etc...

Kevin do you really think the wing can be sorted? The door I can imagine but the wing looks fairly bad. I wouldn't like to try it tbh but then again I'm not good at it lol

Yeah I've priced up a "breaking spares and repairs" wing on eBay. £60 delivered, good condition (no scratches, swirls I can deal wid).

It's the door that royally f***s me off. So you'd advice MF applicator with paint? Wipe over a few times and then polish up, thus removing excess paint from around the scratch, leaving the build up in the scratch? I know that was the method for Russ' stone chips guide;

Wing is likely to be delivered soon via CS user hopefully! But interested in thoughts on the door as that's the one I know I can fix and hence pisses me off more!

Have you attacked the scratches with your rotary yet at all? I know a rotary won't ever get rid of it but it'd make a good start and less to fill via the paint/MF/sanding method.

Finger nail deep lad. No point round off the edges, it's not a UDS. These are broken lacqer and the the wing is down to plastic. I need to build layers, wet sand the round paint surface and then attack it with the rotary.

I wouldn't buy the new wing, they're a c**t to fit and probably full of hidden rust. If done right the guide works superb mate. You're description of what to do it bob on. I would practice first but fire in if you're confident.

It really does just level off. Don't go crazy with the paint, keep it very local to the scratch, about 1 CM either side of the mark if that makes sense. :)

The wing needs painted Scrooge, I don't think JD would deny that, all about making it looking a bit better. It'll never be perfect.

I have a couple of panels I want to try this on ( not on my car but spare panels laying about) I want to try Russ' method on as the ones I've tried before I've never been fully happy with.

My mrs got quite good results with paint mixed with lighter fluid applied to stone chips and scratches with a cloth.

Must confess I know nothing about how or why, I assume its cause the lighter fluid thins the paint enough to get into the scratches but evaporates very well so it still dries or something like that, but it certainly worked.
