Knacked Alternator



  Titanium Clio 182
Got into my car yesterday and it was juddering, and I stalled it twice. Also when I drove it about 500 yards to another car park when it was idling, the dashboard was dimming then returning to normal then dimming again going in sync with the engine. Then the battery light came on with the stop, then the lights went off, I turned the engine off, then it wouldn't start. I waited 10min then it started (only just).

The main lights wouldn't come on, the side lamps where flashing on and off, the vents wouldn't go on. I drove it around Portsmouth Dockyard for 10 min and the wipers where sooooo slow. Then the abs warning light and the esp light illuminated along with the airbag warning light.

I check the battery with the engine off and on and it was 11.7 volts.

Think the alternator is fooked!!!

Start the engine and then take a voltage reading. Should be 13v-14v if the alternator's ok. If it's still 11.7 or thereabouts then your alternator is no good and your battery is flat. Should read over 12v with no load on it.

Yeah it was the same with the car running.

Booked it into Ren-Tech to get fixed. Went to Halfords they don't hold it in stock. Ren-tech said their are a few different varieties for the 182. Surely the should be just 1 type for the 182, not seven!!

just replaced the one on my 172, £174 trade with old unit exchange + 2hrs book time labour, new battery and alternator me tinks!
