from the pic above i would say they are 17mm...

Yeah, around that size... its just Im going to halfrauds to get some other things soon. Or i could stop being lazy, find my socket set and see what size fits lol.... and then buy the extended version.

Ill hang around a few minutes....

16mm.

Looks like mines been moved before, but in the opposite direction to the pic posted on the page before.

Reckon its still worth me moving it forward?

Thanks mate, very kind.

If its been move back the way then maybe its done it over time. Would still give it go..... nothing to loose and lots to gain :)

No worries.

Too right,

Thing is, I never deliberatly wheelspin the car in 1st, just happens occasionally when i'm pressing on a bit.

I doesn't sound very healthy when it does it either so i'd like to get it sorted.

I will move mine when i get to work, think i'll mark it as well so i can put it back to how it was before if i have any trouble.

  BMW M3
Yeah, i dont wheel spin ever on purpose, i just think of the price of tyres lol

But is in situations when pulling out of places that needs lots of power in the wet that it happens.

Where i live, a small street comes out on to a main dual 60 mph road and the vision is appaling to see cars coming. Also, the angle of the small street is raised over the main road and so the front left wheel often looses grip as its almost off the ground.

So when i pull on on this road, and then see a massive lorry flying towards me.... its power time.... and bang bang bang.... followed by apololigies to my car for making such a horrible knocking. lol

Right well I moved my engine mount following gt_gaz's suggestion and it has worked a treat. No knocking now whatsoever.

As I said before it looks like my mount had been moved before, and the mounting bolts were not overly tight so I am still wondering as to whether the mount had slowly moved through vibration etc over time eventually causing the knock.

I am thinking about putting some threadlock on the mounting bolts, just to make sure they don't come undone in a hurry. Something I might do later I think.

I will post pictures of what I did when I get home (i'm at work at the mo) if anybody is interested although I did very much the same as gt_gaz.

Thanks for your help by the way gt_gaz, very kind and helpful of you to show how you'd sorted this horrible noise!!

^^ Yeah works a treat, no need for a deep socket, just a standard socket, with an extension bar on it if that, takes a hole minute to do,try it,you might be suprised

hey was reading this thread and i too have this problem but i dont know if mine is in the same class i dont get a judder from taking off unless in the wet with esp on but i do get a horrid knock sound when for instance im reversing and turning the wheel either left or right slowly or in certain situation when im braking at certain times it would make the knock sound again or upon easy acceleration. it is not a continous knocking sound but just one annoying loud knock. i tried taking out my battery and tightening the bolts on the gearbox mount under the battery but they seem to be fine i dont know what else it could be but its frustrating me it does sound like its coming from the passenger side....i thought it was the top strut knocking but i doubt since its predominantly on the left end passenger side i do feel a very slight shudder in the steeing wheel when it knocks though is this the same problem or another?

easy fix this!!!! its the engine hitting the subframe/ and or steering rack, not axel tramp etc

i sorted mine by getting the uprated k tec dog bone mount.... and then slacken off the 4 bolts on the left hand engine mount (the one near the oil cap lol) pull the engine forward with the help of a bar/mate then re tigthen the bolts. Job done, mine never does this now, no mater how much right foot is given in 1st

Washed the car today and thought id give your pulling the engine forward to stop the bad knocking noise when under heavy acceleration in 1st gear, which the car has done scince new. Now its totally smooth with no knocking and banging. THANKS MATE!!

I get this problem in the wet too - in fact I got it so bad last week when I pulled out of a junction in the wet, that my exhaust fell off (thanks to the crappy clamp between the cat and the mid-section)!

I knew it was something to do with this mount. My car never used to get this banging from the passenger footwell (bulkhead) untill i had the cambelt done. The mount needs to come off for it to be replaced.... then it started. It was then obvious it just needed adjusting.

This makes so much sense, thinking about it this noise didnt happen until i had my cambelt done!!
