Lambda sensor or coilpack?

Hi, my Ph2 Clio 172 isn't running great at the moment. When you start it up it idles very badly, has flat spots, shudders inside the car and sounds lumpy all the time. It's usually worse when cold but still very bad even when fully warmed up.

The sparkplugs have been changed recently so I can rule them out.

There aren't any warning lights on the dash so I'm not sure how to find out which one of the above is probably at fault?

By the way, I tried swapping the pre and post cat Lambda sensors but neither of them would budge, so I'm not gonna try swapping them myself again!

Sounds like one of the HT leads or the coilpack, had similar problems on my 1.2 but had to replace the full coil pack as it had the leads built in.

Coilpack is the cheapest to check and probably most likely to be anyway!

coil pack is a common one. But it shouldn't really be related to whether the engine is hot or cold. If a lambda is gone it does tend to be worse when cold and will not affect the car at full throttle or near full throttle. A common symptom is the car will not pickup at all so you squeeze the throttle down gradually until you reach a point where the ECU starts ignoring the lambda then the engine suddenly wakes up again.

My coil pack was related, when I started the engine it was spluttery but when it warmed up it was undriveable.

I have had similar on my 1.2. I have been told its the throttle position sensor

when it gets dirty you loose all power and it just starts to splutter i have changed my coil pack so this was the only thing left to check.

Ok i'am a women but did take it to the garage to be told this lol

ok thanks everyone, looks like coilpack is the next port of call!

Is it best to get one from a company like GSF or Eurocarparts as they are probably cheaper than Renault?

If the new coilpack doesn't fix it, i'll take it somewhere to swap my Lambda sensors over. I swear I used almost Heman strength trying to remove those things and they wouldn't budge!

the RAC/AA often carry them because they go wrong so often. If you have roadside cover, go out somewhere, tell them it's difficult to drive and they'll do a roadside repair for free

I had exactly the same problem on my 1.2, was the lambda sensors
