Legally Unlocked Iphones..

I've been contemplating buying one for a while now for use on my T-mobile contract to replace my P1i.
After seeing the link it made me wonder, would I be able to buy a German Iphone and use it over here?
I'm in Germany on Monday on business and payday is tomorrow:approve:!

Cheers ..If not then I'm pretty screwed! I would have thought there would have been locks against me using it on T-mobile.

France don't unlock it either. Only uk really and america.

Will all the features bar Visual Voicemail be exactly the same as the Iphone on O2?
I've got Web n Walk on my contract already.
