Locked out of my ph.2 172...

  Clio Sport 172
Hi folks :) unlucky first post I'm afraid...
I made the mistake of unlocking the car and briefly hanging the keys in the ignition whilst putting my bin bags out tonight and have returned to find that the car has locked itself with the keys merrily swinging in the ignition.

I don't have a spare key and would welcome any suggestions on how to get out of this predicament!

Thanks.

didnt think the car re-locked once you open a door? dont quite understand what you've done there

i dont think mine is like that, mine will only re-lock if the doors havent been opened

I'd wager one of the doors, £10-£20 from the scrap yard, but don't go doing it yet, incase someone has an easier method.

Thanks, my Mum has a PH.1 Clio as well, so I might just try her key before breaking anything. Perhaps a bit of barrel wear will play to my advantage.

Passenger window is the safe option, the unsafe option being bend the top of the door out a little and get a rod to press the central locking button.

This is really easy on a 206. I remember just popping one of the opening rear windows in about 2 minutes and then using a long stick. I nearly got an erection from the excitement of breaking into a car, even thought it was my own.

If you don't need your car or its at home then use ur windscreen repair on insurance, and put it through then get a nice new one?

That's correct, I bet one of his interior light switches is dead therefore the car not getting the signal that a door has been opened.

AA will break into your car if you have cover, although they may siggest a locksmith at your expense. I did the same thing last week, just smashes passenger window and replaced it. People give the glass away for free if you are willing to collect. I got quite a few offers when I was looking for one. fitting is relatively easy once you know how.

Da ja vu? Every day or so at the minute people seem to be locking their keys in their cars :S

haha

ring AA/RAC or whatever if you have cover, nobody is going to tell you how to break into a clio on a public forum without breaking the window etc :)

There was a thread which I can't find about this over the last couple of days.

Bend the top of the door back GENTLY and get a coat hanger / pallet strapping in there and pop the door handle or poke the lock/unlock button if you can somehow.

B*llocks to smashing a window. You'll find glass EVERYWHERE for ever and a day !

Thanks for all the suggestions folks. I managed to get in eventually by using my Mum's Clio key in the door lock!

Have locked myself out and managed to use a thin metal wire to press window switch for driver window and open it. you will have to slightly pull open top of door to get the wire in.
