Looking at 2005 Clio RenaultSport 182

hello everyone, i was wondering if someone could give me abit of idea of what to do,

i went to look at a clio 182 on saturday and evrything seemed fine when i checked the oil filler cap it was clean with no residue, i took it for a testdrive and everything was ok so i went home to check insurance and have a good think about it and when i went back today i had second look around it and there was a creamy coloured residue on the oil cap and a little bit on the dipstick, i heard it could either be condensation or the head gasket.

could someone help me out and give me some information on what they think it could be?

the dealer says he will give me a 3 months parts warranty anyway

would you risk it or is there nothing to worry about

Re: Looking at 2005 Clio Sport 182

If it's been sat at the dealership for a while and only driven for short periods (test drives) then it's most likely nothing to worry about.

Buy it and use it daily if you do. If it's still there, you've got the warranty. Easy.

its hard to say because that can mean this, have you driven it? warm it up and see if it gets too hot leave it running for ages and see what happens

my second car has white stuff above the oil cap and its fine but it gets used for city driving only so maybe thats why.

if your heart isnt in it its prob best to walk away !

why was it only a short drive ? dealers and private sellers have always let me test the car for as long as I wanted ....

He sed he wud service it too before i took it, i mite be better tryin squeze a 6 month warranty off him for piece of mind, it may jus need a gud blast on motorway if its only dun a couple short journeys (testdrives).
wud u risk it personally?

My old 1.2 had this, like white stuff on the filler cap, but it was cos I only done 1 mile each way to work, so short journeys cause this.

Was colour was it exactly, this was like creamy coloured and same sort of texture as the oil

I'd have thought so too, best bet is to ask to take it abit further (few miles) then check again if you're worried.

very commom thing on the 1.2's never seen it on a 1*2 or any f4r for that matter. but on the other hand it sound's to me like it would'nt be a head gasket. one thing that makes me think this is that i cant recall ever seeing a 1*2 head gasket go so their not very common like the mg's lol.

how many miles has it done?

if it were me i would ask them to test it

and also if you are going to buy it get them to put it on paper about fixing the problem. i say this because these warranty's that trader give out can really turn you over.

over priced if it needs belts paying 4k for that. no head gaskets on F4Rs i have seen.
you can get condension though. more so on cars with plastic cam covers

No use the search...................

Will need the FULL kit, every 5 years or 72k. Not some back street place either, must be a place with experience of the engine. Plenty of specialists on here. Will cost £450-500 or so

Will the warranty cover parts and labour? I presume not from your early posts.

I'd skip it tbh, not the most desirable colour, better deals to be had when all is considered.
