A car
Your the one who compared them in the first place.
I did, i though that was the whole point of the thread? Or did i miss something?

And you'd be right in your assumptions.
The fact of the matter is, ANY standard valver in ''reasonable'' condition will get humped by ANY standard 172 in ''Reasonable'' condition. Today. Not 5 or 8 years ago.
All imo of course.

I said original condition, not reasonable condition. There is a difference. If you dont understand that difference try an online dictionary.

He's the best ok.
Brad's() 5th law - im always right
It would have won one yeah - if i'd have taken it along to a show, but I didn't, so unless they are going to come round my house with an award, I don't stand much of it getting one.Like i said, pumps would not fail on a good engine, You had a dog. No wonder it was slow. Hardly fair comparing it to a newer car is it?
If it was mint it would have won a concours award. Id say at best it was average.
People overestimating their cars worth - Brad's fourth law.

It was mint, you haven't seen it - you don't know. You can tell me it's crap as much as you like, I don't care really, I know full well that it wasn't. If it had of been rubbish, i'd not have sold it for the price I did & it would have taken ages to get rid of.
It was slow with the lower mileage engine in it, i've said that quite a few times now.
I don't have pics of the arches & bay etc. I sold the car years ago now.Pics of the engine bay and under the arches please. PM me if you like.
Yeah i never mentioned mileage. I said in original condition. Ie on low mileage AND in 100% working order.
Low mileage engines can be broken too you know? Sounds like yours was.
So to recap for the opening poster. Yes valvers are good cars, and in reality on a road or track, the driver makes the most diference and so there is nothing between any of the renaultsport cars as long as you buy a good original example of any of them.
As for tuning, they are hard to tune without spending a lot of money on them. Best to avoid engine tuning unless you have lots of spare cash. If you get one just enjoy it for what it is.
They're not quick mate. They were back in the day but most shopping cars can keep up with a standard one nowadays.
A Saxo VTS tbh. Or a Pug 106 gti.something as quick for same price?
thanks brad, I'll look away and look towards a vtr, thanks mate
Its funny how a 172 with 90k is "just run in", but a clio 16v on similar milage would be a bone shaker about to blow up.
Having owned a 16v, a 172 and a 182, I can safely say that a 16v is a great car to get to grips with some performance. 7.7 to 60, so thats less than a second slower than a 182...so in real life, a cars length at a traffic light grand prix - big deal, I could live with that.
The only issues with a 16v is reliability and the rust. Find one thats already had a new lump dropped in it and you could be onto a winner.
I have a soft spot for 16v's, and would love another one...
I would suggest that the OP goes over to the Clio 16v forum and gets a less snobby response.
Contradiction much??
I'm far from snobby about 16v's mate. But the original poster sounded like he was getting excited about 137bhp and 7.7s to sixty. I was merely trying to point out that for £1000-£1300 (his budget) he would be disappointed.
I said i was a little perplexed from what was on parkers, thats why i came to ask questions... not a war
6'6 mate, size 12's
Mate, I was trying to help!! Ffs.
Buy what you want.
wasn't a dig mate, just everyone got sidetracked
