Lol, had mine 2 months now (Mk2) Its awesome :D Do a search there are lots of V6 threads. Oh by the way, August next year may be too late - V6 production is due to end some time next year, and there will be no replacement.

think its going to end September now.

How does the MKI compare to the MKII and what are the main differences? Is the MKI worth considering.....Ive heard they are a handful, also how are they for reliability? Sorry to hijack your thread....

Not being biase at all here (Got MK 1)

See lots of threads with people saying MK1 ishard to handle a handfull over rated etc... Advise is test drive one.. I test drove MK1 and MK2 before purchasing and to be fair MK2 does drive a bit better as in smoothness but as for power and handling unless you drive on a track everyday and push the car to the limit you aint gonna notice much difference especially not for extra Mula.

Test drive is the only way as it is after all personal preference

From reviews I have read the Mk2 is about 0.6 faster to 60 (4 car lenghts) and about 2.0 faster to 100 (23 car lenghts) mainly down to more power and better gearbox, plus with a wider track, revised suspension and new subframes gives the Mk2 the edge on handling too, plus they look more modern with the new front end.

But it down to you really, take them both for a test and see how you feel?

...definitely get a mk2 if (and you can see its a big if) you can stomach the depreciation and greater outlay. But the prices are starting to fall, and if you can pick up a bargin mk2, like some of the guys on this forum have, do it! DO IT! DO IT! (anyone else think that line from Starsky and Hutch is funny?)

DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING PEOPLE TELL YOU, TEST DRIVE ONE!

MK2 V6 1/4 MILE = 14.3 SEC (THIS HAS NEVER BEEN PROVED OTHERWISE ON HERE)

MK1 V6 1/4 MILE = 14.5 SEC (BUT THIS HAS BEEN PROVED ON HERE)

DONT BELIEVE THE B/sh*t, JUST READ WEB SITES REVIEWS FOR GENUINE UNBIASED OPINIONS! ;)

REAL FIGURES,

That second site you have listed says the V6 Mk1 does 0-100mph in a rather slow 18.9???

Making the Mk2 at leasat more than 3.5 seconds faster to 100 (3.5 seconds at 100mph = 42 car lenghts...lol), even better than I said in my post.

thanks,

Simon

LOL, thats funny. The MK2 is a better car, of course its updated version of the MK1 ;) . But until you can put the proof on the track on a 1/4 mile race against a mk1 and beat it by 42 car lengths on the 1/4 mile drag :D:D:D which is usually 100mph over the line. I will have to say from what I have read, the mk2 isnt much better in real life. Unless you have genuine proof rather than talk. They are both quality, 0.2 secs advantage over the 1/4 mile has been recorded in all reviews I have read :D

I dont go in for 1/4 mile times, its an American thing...lol

Also the reason I pointed that site out (that you gave) was that you claim its "Real Figures"? explain then how a car that does 0-100 in 18.9 seconds can be only 0.2 seconds slower on 1/4 mile than a car that does 0-100 in 14.9 seconds??

If those figures you quote are correct, then yes at 100mph 4 second gap = 45 car lenghts, that is fact....lol

Simon.

I am only kidding with you of course, I know that site has got all its figures wrong, including the 1/4 mile for the Mk1....lol

Also remember that 1/4 mileing is just as much a test of "driver and car" where as 0-100mph is just a test of the car, because in 1/4 miles you go after the clock starts where as in 0-100 times the clock starts the moment you move.

0-100 is a better judge of car only.

Just my opinion.

Simon.

Simon deary, LOL. You like to rant, so I will let you. But you never take your car to any proving ground, so your talk is cheap. Your car is still standard, even though you have been harping on about getting 100 bhp plus of nitrous coming soon Or a Supercharger coming soon. Unless you have actually done something impressive, dont bother pretending.

But I know you are always right, :p The guys that have actually done loads of engine mods, dont rant at all. I think this says a lot.. like they have nothing to prove to anyone.. ;)

But to help this guy, both cars are quality, MK2 is better car of course.. if you can afford a MK2.. buy one! If you want to own a very close runner up.. buy the MK1! ;)

The end.

Sorry mate I dont like to rant at all, but someone talks bull I like to try and put them right...ok....;)

I thought we where discussing the Mk1 and Mk2, I have only been putting my side from lots and lots of info I have read on the matter, if you dont like it, so what?

and 0-100 is a better measure of a cars acceleration than 1/4 mile is, dont you agree?

btw any mods I have will be next year, never said they would be this year.

I do take my time modding, waying up this and that before I choose, I have been talking to BenR abd AndyGDI as to what I can get done.

I aint going to rush into buying the wrong mods.... :D

BTW , which V6 do you own????

Simon.

THE END.

Wouldnt exactly say V6 is a quarter mile car!! Anyone who is only interested in quarter miles or 0-100 would probs not buy V... why it aint ever gonna be the fastest!

Its all down to personal pref I think.. I drove both MK1 AND 2 and found very slight difference... def not enough to spend the extra money... And I laugh :D at anyone who says MK 1 handle crap!! Drive one man...

Real difference is gonna be on the track and not many people gonna do that all the time

TRUE /\

i had a test drive i a silver 02 plate mk1 v6 with 20k on the clock and loved it pushed it hard to the limiter oh the sweet sweet sound of that engine i nearly bought it @14.5k

dont understand people who say the v6 isnt quick enough.. its fast and its more about the whole package!

True mate... Fact is alot of people listen too much to reviews.. Gotta get out there and try for yourself... Fact is MK2 is newer and updated version with slightly different characteristics.... Dont mean ya gonna like them!

Got to look at the whole package... For me I dont like all the plastic on MK2s also not a fan of the lights so MK1 with a few mods and hey presto car for me!

until they stop production .. then we should see the classic status start to show... 14k is a trade in price for a mkII .. anyone doing that must be insane !!
