Lost keys...

  Mk4 .:R32
I thought I'd lost my car keys yesterday and I don't have a spare set. How much would it have cost to sort out getting a new set from renault if I had actually lost them and couldn't get in my car?

i got a key off ebay and had it cut to save money in total cost me about 16 quid, but i can't work out how to [programme it to the car its a right pain the the arse, i think from reno it something silly like 50 quid thats why i went down the cheapy method that didn't pay off... i still only have on key. thats why the key is tied to my arm with a bit of string so il NEVAH loose it :D

btw if anyone knows how to get the key programmed any info would be much appreciated :D

think im gonna stick with just one key then, when i brought the key off ebay, i won a bid for about 8pound ish then had the key cut, the key came with a sheet of paper which had programming instructions on, it was something like turn the key in the door x amount of times then do this that etc, didn't work thou.. :(

Around £130-140 with key blade, blip, immobiliser and programming. Its delivered from France so should be with you between 1 and 2weeks. Bear in mind, if the locks have been changed by you or a previous owner, you will need them changed again. Not cheap iirc. So its worth getting if you have only one key.

Ring around quite a few dealers tho as prices vary drastically dealer to dealer.

I rung a few garages and was told only Renault can do the key programming. Needs some certain software or something, not even alL Renault garages have the software for a mk2 ph1!

I meant if I had no key to my car, and it's locked....how would they give me a new key without the old one to 'copy' and cut a new one?

im sure they have your key on the system so you would just order one? u would need to produce proof of owner ship and the vin number aswell iirc... or new locks lol. dunno

They could code a new key to your immobiliser/alarm etc, but the locks would all need changing as the blade wouldn't be available to copy.

Circa £500+ for a full lock set, fitted. Plus keys, coding etc it simply is not worth only having one key!!

They don't need the blade to duplicate. I got a new key and fob by just giving them the VIN number :) (I got mine when I lived in France though)

i have insured my one set of car keys. It costs £12 a year and its called a boomerang tag, which has a code on it, So basically if you loose them (or any other keys on the keyring aslong as they are registered), you phone the number and they give you a replacement for free:) sorted!

the keys for a ph2 are off the shelf and the blade comes from france normally take 3 days at the most. and key programming is renault only for ph1 and ph2 and you can use keys off ebay. ph1 are ordered to a key number

  172 FF Ph2
Hi Guys,

Picking up an old thread here but my 172 ph2 only came with one key, foolishly I bartered £50.00 off the car for this, when I rung Renault £120 plus programming! WFT!

So I looked on Ebay and have bought a second hand key just to see what can be done. I have also found a device that will read my existing key's Transponder and is able to reprogramme / clone another key, still i've spent less than £120.00, i'm hoping this will do it! The alternative is getting Renault to reprogramme an old key, does anyone know if they can do this? If so then I will have spent £46.00 in total if Renault charge me £40.00, otherwise I will try and get the recoder.

Surely if this was possible, i.e. getting old keys reprogrammed this would be a great money saver? The new uncut blade for the second hand key was £3.00 and the key £3.00. A friend of mine has access to the Renault Clip thingy where he works but you need a code to put into the Clip to get it to reprogramme the immobiliser ring, it's all a bit complicated, but I guess I'm hoping to unearth a way to not have to pay £140+ for a new spare key!

Anyone know any more about this sort of thing?
